Blammo Grovels

The Byronesque Mr Bowie cuts a dash at Glasto

Things are a little tense here at chez Blammo right now. Knee deep in hopeless BBC ticket requests, death threats, (well actually somebody told me to poo off or some such thing) a BBC camera (which I have yet to figure how to switch on...speak to you soon Steph) and dissolving deadlines. I would like to thank everybody for the very kind compliments I have received on my journal take-over so far, and I apologise for my less than prolific recent updates.

I promise to bring it all up to date over the next few days, including my last days in New York, (missing you all far more than I thought I would...and I knew I would miss you a lot) TFI, Glorious Glastonbury, and no doubt, tomorrow's day at the BBC. In the meantime, for those of you wondering exactly what it was that excited today's UK press, here is that Glastonbury set list In full...and what a night it was...How good is the David Bowie band right now? Phew...

PS - Thanx for the pic Caz - I owe you };-)

Glastonbury Meeting Point

Talking to many of you in recent days, it would seem that the majority of you that are going to Glastonbury to see David this Sunday will not be leaving your space at the front of the stage for ANYTHING, including the call of nature, and certainly not to meet anybody...But for those of you that fancy the idea of linking up with fellow BowieNetters then we suggest the official meeting point. - see Glasto map

A time of 4:00pm GMT seems favourite, which still gives you around six hours before our boy takes to the stage. You can also post messages up at this official meeting point if you want to make any alternative arrangement. Don't forget your wellies and bog-roll!

More About Roseland

Here's another Roseland review!

Bowienet Exclusive - Bbc 'event' Giveaway

There were whispered rumours among the fans at the New York shows of some sort of happening at the BBC on June 27th...where do you get your information from?! Well, whatever, we can now tell you that these rumours actually do have a foot in reality. This BBC event will be one of the most intimate performances that David has ever given, and needles to say, BowieNet has the lion's share of the tiny allocation.

Because of the limited audience space we will have to distribute places for the show in a 'first-out-of-the-hat' type thing. All you need to do is:

Make sure that you are DEFINITELY available on June 27th and that you can be in Central London by 6:30pm (GMT). Once you are certain that you will be able to attend, e-mail me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE at this address: mrtotalblamblam@aol.com

IMPORTANT - You must e-mail from your davidbowie.com e-mail address to prove that you are a BowieNet member.

Once the places have been pulled randomly from the list, the winners will be notified via an e-mail which will double as entrance ticket and information sheet for the event. There will be no tickets as such, you must bring your e-mail notification with you for proof of a place. No e-mail print out, no admission.

You must also warn us of any special requirements such as a need for wheelchair access etc.

We will stop accepting applications at 9:00pm EST tomorrow, Thursday 22nd June.

If you have not understood this, please e-mail me now. Good Luck!!!

Roseland Reviews

Well, we all know the Roseland shows were a colossal success, but here are some critics' (overwhelmingly) positive responses:

It's nights like this (which don't happen very often, folks), that kind of prove rock 'n' roll isn't dead. Bowie, backed by his more than able new band, heads to England this weekend, where he is due to headline the Glastonbury festival on Sunday night.

Go to the Spin Magazine review

It really pays to be a David Bowie fan these days. Not only can one surf the Internet in style courtesy of the artist's own Internet portal (www.davidbowie.com -- a service of his company, UltraStar), members of the service are showered with such perks as Monday's (June 19) intimate, private concert at New York's Roseland Ballroom.

Go to the Billboard Magazine review

David Bowie really is serious about this Internet thing. At New York's Roseland Ballroom last night (June 19) he performed a concert for an audience made up exclusively of members of his online community, Bowienet. And if you were a member of the media, you could score a ticket by attending a press conference on how Bowienet and Bowie's company Ultrastar were exploiting the power of the Internet with the aid of beatnik technology.

Go to the VH1 review

The rock star, high-tech pioneer, bank magnate and virtual community patriarch (not to mention actor and painter) played the role of host at New York's Roseland Ballroom on Monday night at a private show. Among the attendees were BowieNet subscribers, friends (including his wife/model Iman, his The Hunger co-star Susan Sarandon, fashion designer Todd Oldham and members of the Cure) and the press.

Go to the Rolling Stone Review

Bowie exuded a love of performance, dancing and miming merrily, and displayed a willingness to include his fans that is often rare among subsequent generations of musicians who look to him as an inspiration. He took time to introduce almost every song, sharing little asides: "This is my favorite song [that] I wrote in the '80s ('Absolute Beginners')," "We're in America, this is where you get famous ('Fame')", and "I'm afraid of you all, you should know that ('I'm Afraid of Americans')."

Go to the Wall of Sound review

DAVID BOWIE will definitely perform at GLASTONBURY this weekend, despite the cancellation of a NEW YORK show last Saturday (June 17) because of a throat infection.

British Press

This was in The British Press on the 19th of June:

In 1964, when David Bowie was plain old David Jones planning his assault on the world of pop, he sat down with his manager Ralph Horton to discuss tactics. They quickly decided where the next cultural battle would be fought - hair.

Bowie Cancels For First Time In 35 Years

Everybody must by now have heard news of David's cancelled show on Saturday night. Despite hopes right up until the last moment that some miracle would prevail, the laryngitis that had rendered David literally speechless after an incredible two and a half hour show, was not about to disappear, and the unthinkable idea that David would have to cancel for the first time in 35 years became a reality.

Despite their huge and obvious disappointment, the fans that had turned up for the show staged an impromptu get well card signing session, and proved what a wonderfully warm lot they are. David would like to pass on his love and gratitude for the many kind messages he has received and for the understanding everybody has shown at this time.

Thanks again for your kindness and patience.

Go here for Blammo's latest journal entry, a review of Friday night's triumphant show.

For ticket refunds, return the stub intact to the location where you purchased it. Ticket Master will refund all Ticket Master purchases. If you ordered by phone, refunds should be called in. If you purchased from an outlet, please go to the outlet for a refund. All BowieNet members will be refunded as they were charged.

Glasto-cam

From The Beeb's Radio One Glastonbury Site:

For those who cannot wait for the Glasto action to begin why not view the exciting build up live via the Radio One webcam. It's positioned high above the cow shed looking towards the main stage. The picture is updated every 30 minutes from now until after the festival ends. A must for all budding roadies no doubt. You can also check out last years Glasto coverage.

Time Out Nyc

In this week's 'Time Out':

Never mind the dodgy art works and curatorial aspirations, nor the pioneering techie pretensions of http://www.bowie.net [sic], or even the more than passable performance as Andy Warhol in that awful Basquiat movie. The Thin White Duke is back to doing what he does best. The 1990s were quiet, a decade in which his art world pursuits captured more attention than his music, but now the man who thrilled you with everything from 'Starman' and 'Rebel Rebel' to 'Young Americans' and 'China Girl' is back in NYC for a much anticipated encore.

Jun 16, 8pm, Roseland Ballroom, 239 West 57th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue (1 212 245 5761).
