Blammo In Shock Report Posting And Journal Takeover Again!

A second posting in two days! It can't be true...but it is. Read how I conquered New York by foot, stood slack-jawed as David Bowie and the band played to an audience of one, my verdict on Hershey bars and much more in today's journal.

Blammo In Shock Report Posting And Journal Takeover

Wow...New York! Big ain't it? Off the plane into big heat, big buildings, big noises, big storms...the background muzak of police cars, wailing like sirens from the rocks of a treacherous stormy sea...Oops sorry, Blammo here, got a bit carried away there.

As DB predicted: "Master Blam comes over to NY next week...so the quality and quantity of Crumbies and scribblings on daily happenings should plummet even further I should think."...and, not wanting to disappoint, here's the first sketchy report of about two, wherein I hope to cover my first time on US soil. If you're interested in reading it, go here. I intend to quiz you chaps about the content of this 'journal' at Roseland, and the fan with the most convincing recall gets to buy me a drink! Go on, humour me.

Thin Wired Duke

Yahoo! Internet Life is not only naming DB their 'Online Pioneer' for the year 2000, but they have a feature story on DB on their web page. The story (which was first published a year ago) is not just any feature, but a 7 page one-on-one interview with DB on a variety of subjects, most especially, the internet. Here is a snippet:

It seems David Bowie wants to talk about his work. Not his music--although there's plenty of it, given that the chameleonic British rocker has spent the last 30 years creating such classic pop songs as "Fame," "Let's Dance," and "Ziggy Stardust." Not his movie roles--althoughthere are plenty, ranging from his chilly star turn in Nicolas Roeg's The Man Who Fell to Earth to smaller parts in The Last Temptation ofChrist and Basquiat. These days, when Bowie says "work," he means "network"--and specifically, he means BowieNet, his newborn boutique Internet service provider (ISP) and music community. Bowie-as-rock-star has evolved into Bowie-as-wired-entrepreneur, able to talk at length on such topics as chat rooms, wearable computers, and the digital-music controversy.

Doors: Bringing Artists And Fans Closer Together

DB was featured in a column about Britain's internet heroes, in the Sunday Times:

As a musician, performer and songwriter, David Bowie continually reinvents himself and his art. He was one of the first leading artists to release a single online, 1997's Telling Lies.

He has experimented with CD-Rom versions of songs that enable the user to create videos to accompany the music. As if this were not enough, he has also pioneered the use of webcasts and chats, offering live video feeds from the studio, live chat with featured guests and an online journal. He has even launched his own internet service provider, which gives fans access to exclusive remixes and even the opportunity to buy artwork.

Bowie is also a co-founder of UltraStar, a web development company that puts entertainment, sports and fashion brands online, with everything from personalised e-mail addresses to discounted merchandise offerings. The key to the service, which is based on the successful BowieNet model, is to get access to behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive content from partners.

The future: "Creating a sense of community is what it's all about; getting a lot of like-minded people together," Bowie explains.

Ruud's DB Discography has been updated recently. Here is the listing of new additions:

Added an unknown 9'20" remix of 'Cat People' from 1982, which you can alsolisten to in Real Audio! In this version of the discography only a "lowbandwidth" version is available, but in the next update people with fastconnections will be able to listen to a better quality version as well.Furthermore, the new Pirates sections has been updated (Greatest Hits FirstPresentation, Christiane F., hours... and two MP3 collections), plus AvaCherry And The Astronettes' People From Bad Homes, a fourth promo CD-singleof 'Jump They Say', and entries for VH1 Storytellers and The Filth And TheFury have been added.

Forthcoming in the next couple of updates: outtakes that used to live onthe shadowman site. I will master them from the original sources and put them up as Real Audio files.

Little Wonder Gig

Tomorrow night, June 10th, the DB tribute band LITTLE WONDER have their next gig lined up at The Grand Hotel in Essex. You can find The Grand Hotel at Leigh Broadway, Leigh on Sea, Essex, England.

Doors open 8.30 p.m. - For details see their web site at:

www.little-wonder.com

About the band: Formed in the Summer of '98 'Little Wonder' play Bowie covers from the early days of 'Ziggy Stardust' up to 'Survive' from the latest album. A studied rework of some of David Bowie's best material: 'Let's Dance', 'China Girl', "Heroes" and 'Space Oddity' are all included in a ninety minute set performed by a group of musicians who share a deep appreciation of Bowie's music. No dodgy wigs, platform shoes or makeup, just lashings of fine music with just a hint of PVC, leather and gold brocade which all add up to give you a real flavour of Mr. Bowie's music.

Recent gigs include Waterside '98, supporting Hot Chocolate and 5ive, a Live Music benefit in aid of Firemans Relief and a number of self promotion gigs all of which sold out. If you appreciate Bowie's music listen to the band, if you don't, you will.

Little Wonder are: Tony Perry (Vocals), Si Kinsler (Guitars, Vocals, Percussion), Lorna Stephens (Keyboards), Jim Harris (Guitars), Nigel Turner (Bass, Vocals), Dave Allen (Drums), Michael Cain (Tenor Sax) and Pete Marriott (Tenor Sax).

Upcoming gigs include:

Sat 10th June: The Grand Hotel - Leigh , Essex.
Sat 22nd July: Stone Sailing Club, Bradwell, Essex (Private Function).
Fri 22nd Sept: Runymede Hall, Benfleet, Essex (TBC).
