'bowiestyle' Book Comp, All You Had To Do Was Win

It's over, no more e-mail please. There were those of you who never found the competition itself, some of you found it but forgot to paste the caption, but mostly, you found, you pasted, you sent. And very quickly too. The first reply I received must have been within a nanosecond of the item being posted, and this most enthusiastic person? Well go here for the first five correct entries in order of arrival.

Chat Help

In the process of ironing out problems for people who use Microsoft Comic Chat as their chat software, Steph has helped come up with a foolproof method for all to rejoin the conversation!

First, open the Microsoft Chat program. Then, you have to go to view then options and then click the servers tab. Select network {none} and type in bowie.villageworld.com in the box on the left and click add. Then you need to check the option on the right hand side - Use IRC Password. People need to enter their bnet password and user name here - N.B. UK-Bowie people don't use the UK-Bowie bit of their log in name. When this is done click apply and ok then go back to connect. Type in bowie.villageworld.com in the server main box and click connect. This procedure works. Previously we didn't have to use the IRC password setting as a pop up log in box appeared.

Spreadin' The News

Iman's appearances this week, on Rosie O'Donnell and Fox News Live, have started a chain reaction of news items! You saw the UK stories yesterday, here are some U.S. ones today:

LONDON (Reuters) - Like the lyrics of his smash hit song Space Oddity, veteran rock star David Bowie and his wife Iman have turned to most peculiar ways -- this time to conceive their unborn child.

Go to Excite News

Iman recently confessed that she and David Bowie used an African fertility custom to help them conceive -- and Christie Brinkley pitched in like a trouper.

David Bowie Better Than Sex!

MOJO MAGAZINE's (www.mojomagazine.co.uk), MAY 2000 issue is subtitled '40 throbbing pages of Rock'n'Roll sleaze! CYNTHIA PLASTERCASTER (a girl after my own heart) is interviewed with a new set of sexy questions! One in particular will strike a chord with SOME of our members.....

What record or gig was better than sex?

"Three ZIGGY STARDUST concerts I saw in 1972. DAVID BOWIE was so wonderful he made me cry, which to me is an orgasmic experience."

I met Cynthia once in the 70's. When I asked her about her 'technique', she spent ages describing the merits of various kinds of plaster. Unfortunately, I didn't have my technical expert, Electric Blue, with me at the time, and so was never able to try out her methods........

Pretty Things Are Groovin'

"The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell"
Remixer is in FULL EFFECT!

As you may know, BowieNet v.2 will contain interactive audio like you have never seen before. Courtesy of Beatnik, the folks who did the Fame Remix, you can not only record your very own mix of 'The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell', and send it to your friends, but you will be using the same engine to power the audio on the rest of the site!

'How can i do that?' you may ask. Simple. If you have not yet installed the Beatnik Player, you must do so. And that's it! To make it even easier, when you go to the "The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell" Remixer it will try to find the Beatnik Player, and if you do not have it, the 'Install Wizard' will guide you through a couple of easy installation steps. So, if you do not already have the player installed, or you aren't sure if you have the player, just check out the Remixer, and you can install it quickly and painlessly. Also, you will then be ready for the exciting audio experience of BowieNet v.2!!

Also, remember that each person who sends a mix will have the opportunity to help a great cause, a favorite of David's, 'Save the Children'. The link will also appear at the bottom of the e-mail each person who sends or receives a remix will get.

Baby Universal

Iman's recent comments on the Rosie O'Donnell show concerning an old African tradition and the loan of Christie Brinkley's baby have certainly captured the imagination of the press here in the UK. The Evening Standard was the first to report the hilarious interview with Rosie with no less than two different front pages and three different full-page reports throughout their various editions yesterday.

Today's papers have picked up on the story with, among others, The Times and The Daily Star devoting large spaces to the piece. Most of our US members probably saw the show themselves, but for the sake of our European members who have yet to see the interview, I can't resist this lovely quote from Iman about the baby's father who is, by all accounts, so excited over the birth he has started work on a nursery: "He has been talking to me about the baby sleeping with us in the bed, and I'm like 'Come on David, the nursery will be just across the room and we should really start the baby learning to sleep in their own room'. And he said 'No, start with us, and then when it moves to the nursery, we'll move to the nursery with it'."

'bowiestyle' Book Preview

Oh lord, yet another Bowie book. Another collection of half-truths and misinformation illustrated with photographs we've all seen a thousand times before no doubt. Well actually, no...'BowieStyle' is a new 160-page book by Mark Paytress, who you may recall was the man behind the authoritative 'Classic Rock Albums - Ziggy Stardust' book a couple of years back. Mark was assisted in the production of 'BowieStyle' by Steve Pafford, editor of the excellent, if outrageously infrequent David Bowie magazine, Crankin' Out, and between them it would appear they have created something actually well worth the cover price.

This "visual examination" of the Bowie style from 1962 to 1999, boasts close to 500 images with around 40% guaranteed previously unseen. From the proof pages and the press release I have seen so far, this book will remain a favourite among Bowie fans for some time to come. Go here for an exclusive sneak preview of the book and for your chance to win one of five copies signed by the authors on its release in June. All you have to do to win is find the competition and be one of the first five to mail me at: MrTotalBlamBlam@aol.com with the caption from the competition page. 'BowieStyle' is published by Omnibus Press in June, priced £19.99 in the UK, $29.95 in the US. ISBN 0-7119-7722-4.

Killer Tunes

Canada's Jam Music Website gives the American Psycho Soundtrack a 4 out of 5 rating in its review of the recently released disk. Here is what they said about the soundtrack:

"In stores today, this revised soundtrack doesn't reflect the serial killer's cheesy '80s music taste, which includes Lewis, Phil Collins, Genesis and Whitney Houston. Instead, we get good stuff like New Order (True Faith), cool remixes of previously released songs like David Bowie's Something In The Air and The Cure's Watching Me Fall, and spooky new songs like Trouble by Daniel Ash and Portishead's Adrian Utley. There are also monologue snippets of star Christian Bale as shallow psychopath Patrick Bateman, accompanied by classical music. "In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do 1,000 now," he says. Good to know."

Instrument Amnesty

Here is an article from the BBC about their 'Music Live' event and the Instrument Amnesty program. Through Instrument Amnesty, thousands of instruments, will be donated for use by the kiddies in school. It is a great cause, so get involved if you can!

A host of top pop stars have joined forces to support the BBC's Music Live event, by donating instruments to wannabe musicians.

The impressive list reads like a Who's Who of rock'n'roll, with David Bowie, Sting, Sir Elton John and The Corrs among those contributing.

The Instrument Amnesty scheme is a joint project involving the BBC and the National Foundation for Youth Music.

Its aim is to collect around 10,000 instruments and pass them on to schoolchildren to encourage them to take up music.

BBC Music Live is a five-day celebration of live music, which will run from 25-29 May.

The huge festival will feature more than 5,000 events across the UK, including concerts from the likes of Paul Weller and Sir Elton, street festivals and a car horn symphony.

Under the scheme, instruments collected in good working order will be given to local music services and community music groups.

You can also go to the BBC's Music Live page, and their Instrument Amnesty page for more info.
