The Nomad Soul On Dreamcast

Prepare for a new experience. Eidos Interactive is to release the futuristic 3D action-adventure game The Nomad Soul on Dreamcast. Developed by Quantic Dream, The Nomad Soul will be available from May 1st 2000.

Graphically brilliant and strikingly stylistic, the game features one of the best real-time 3D engines available and for the very first time in a video game, facial motion capture in real-time. It also features music by David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels and, for the first time ever in a video game, a virtual album. David also appears in the game, playing the roles of Boz the Virtual Being - the mysterious leader of a terrorist organisation, as well as a young singer of a band called the Dreamers. The game boasts the first virtual concert with David Bowie, Reeves Gabrels and Gail Ann Dorsey performing within the game.

Omikron is a mysterious city sheltering beneath a protective dome in an inhospitable universe. Beneath its foundations lie the ancient ruins of countless dynasties and empires. Its citizens live out their lives in near utopia, oblivious to the evil that lurks just below the surface of their hi-tech city.

The Nomad Soul is a journey into a parallel universe where nothing is as it seems. The player is completely free to move around within Omikron, both in the streets as well as inside the buildings. The player can talk to the people of the city, drive anti-gravity vehicles and fight in 3D (with bare hands, or with a laser gun).

The Nomad Soul introduces virtual reincarnation to the gaming world. In order to move around the city, the player must place his or her soul into the body of someone in Omikron. Whenever this body dies, the soul is transferred into the body of the first person who touches the dead body. From that point on, the player will have to talk, investigate, fight, drive, shoot, ride and explore his way to the conclusion of the game: deliverance from this strange dimension.

The Nomad Soul will immerse the player in a truly virtual world with an ingenious storyline, where you can interact with anyone and everything. The Nomad Soul features dazzling art direction, state-of-the-art 3D effects and an exciting blend of exploring, puzzle solving and combat action that will appeal to adventurers and action gamers alike.

Key features:

  • Complete freedom within a city in real-time 3D, with passers-by and vehicles
  • More than 400 different sets in four huge cities
  • Motion capture body and facial movements bring every citizen of Omikron to life.
  • 150 different real time 3D motion captured characters
  • More than 300 objects can be used
  • Four hours of dialogue with more than 1200 responses
  • 70 talking characters
  • Experience 'virtual reincarnation', the ability to move directly into the body of the first person who touches you after you die.

German News

The German magazine called "Rolling Stone" has in its April 2000 issue, a small article with a new photo of David and Iman. It says that David is reducing his live-activities in the next year because he and Iman are going to be parents again, and they want to be there for the child's first couple of years and don't want to be interrupted by work. The only thing which is planned are 4 shows this year. The next article is featured in our German magazine "Musik Express" April 2000 with the headline: More bank is not needed by a Bowie-fan. The article features Bowie.banc and says at the end that it might be quite sure where Bowie´s new child might have its first account....The magazine "Musik Express" features also an article called "Family-album" which shows children-photos of famous people. Of course David Bowie is also among them. So enjoy the photo of the young David Bowie!thanks bianca!

Hollylist

Here is a bit of info from the Webmaster of Holly Palmer's Fansite 'Five Little Birds':

The little email list I started with Holly three years ago has grown really big! As a result, the email list and journal that I previously worked with Holly on has moved to her new official site at www.HollyPalmerSinger.com. This means more timely updates of shows and other great things from Holly.

Many of you joined this list and visited my web site way back in 1997 and were instrumental in helping me learn how to make a site worthy of Holly's talent. Thank you all for taking the time to email me over the years and I hope all the road journals and concert updates did more than clog your inbox!

The new album is scheduled to arrive on July 11th!!!!!! I'll keep updating my site as new info becomes available. Best wishes.

Jason Lent, Webmaster of 'Five Little Birds'

Kina

Our new java chat had an important visitor the other night, one 'MISERABLE SOD' aka 'SAILOR'!

He told us to watch out for a new recording artist'KINA'. He said her music is a sort of soul/folk mix,but with a rock edge. A bit 'Tracey Chapman'ish.

He told us Iman likes 'KINA' too, and made sure topoint out that "I was right about Macy, wasn't I?"

I have had a search around for more information about'KINA', and come up with not a single thing! UnlessYOU know different?

Let us know at:- info@davidbowie.com

Remember where you heard it first!

Ashcroft In At #3 With Help Of Ground-breaking Video

Richard...I mean David...I mean Richard...Oh, I give up...

Former Verve singer, Richard Ashcroft, has crashed into the UK singles chart at number three with his debut solo single, 'A Song For The Lovers'. This success can only have been helped by the fairly heavy rotation of the video that features Dick in a series of domestic situations around his apartment. The video itself is strangely familiar in its presentation, all moody lighting and soft focus, it is shown in the letterbox format that was used for Bowie's own 'Thursday's Child' video.

There is one rather clever scene in particular where Dicky is scrutinising his reflection in a large bathroom mirror, as he sings along to his own song on the radio, while preparing himself for a day doing whatever it is that he does? Rumours that this section of the video was culled directly from a screen test that Rich made to body-double as Bowie in the 'Thursday's Child' video, are unfounded and completely hilarious. Needless to say, Richard retains his trademark stroppy look for the duration of the song...one could almost say that he looks full of woe.

Everything's falling into place...

Db Is Down With That

In a recent interview with Public Enemy's Chuck D. on www.addict.com, David Bowie is named as one of the music industry pioneers who believes that "keeping it real means keeping it virtual."

The interview with rapper Chuck D. references Bowie multiple times.

Here are some excerpts:

"Prince and David Bowie are the template"...

Chuck D, along with The Artist and David Bowie, is a firm believer in the Web's power to circumvent the usual music business channels by helping artists take control of how much and what kind of music they release, when they release it and how much they charge consumers.

See 'lady' Strangled Tonight!

B>He'll lay belief on you...

Of course that headline was meant in the nicest possible way as Paul Roberts, lead singer with The Stranglers, intends to perform his version of 'Lady Grinning Soul' tonight at The Monarch in London's 'place to be', Camden Town. You may remember that Paul included the song on his recent album 'Faith', and a very good version it is too.

So if you're kicking around North London tonight, pop along and give the man your support and tell him we sent you. For further details about tonight's show go here: http://www.paul.roberts.cwc.net/070400.html
