Rest In Peace Lisa Marie

More sad news with the passing of Lisa Marie Presley who suffered cardiac arrest yesterday. (12th Jan)

The daughter of Elvis and Priscilla was just 54 and had been seen in public with her mother only two days earlier on 10th Jan at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

She is pictured here with David and Iman at Radio City Music Hall in NY in 2005.

Farewell to Jeff Beck

“But boy could he play guitar...”

Sad to hear about the passing of guitarist Jeff Beck who died aged 78 on Tuesday after “suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis”.

Our thoughts are with his family who have asked for privacy during this sad time.

Jeff is pictured here with David at Les Paul’s 95th Birthday in NY on 8th June 2010.

Among other things Jeff is probably known best to Bowie fans for his guest appearance in the live medley of The Jean Genie/Love Me Do and Round And Round recorded live at the final Ziggy Stardust concert at Hammersmith Odeon in 1973, as featured in the recent Moonage Daydream film.

Aladdin Sane 50th anniversary picture disc and half speed mastered LPs

“Who will love Aladdin Sane?”

TWO SPECIAL VINYL RELEASES TO CELEBRATE THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF ALADDIN SANE TO BE RELEASED 14th APRIL, 2023 - ORDER HERE

WATCH THE UPGRADED VIDEO FOR THE JEAN GENIE NOW

April 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s ALADDIN SANE, originally released just ten months after his breakthrough album THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS. The title track and songs such as ‘Panic In Detroit,' ‘Lady Grinning Soul’ and ‘Time’ marked a significant musical progression, adding brass, woodwind, soulful backing vocals and the distinctive piano of Mike Garson.

On 14th April, 2023, one week before its Golden Jubilee, ALADDIN SANE will be issued as a limited edition 50th anniversary half-speed mastered LP and a picture disc LP pressed from the same master.

The album was preceded by two singles ‘The Jean Genie’ and ‘Drive-In Saturday’, peaking in the U.K. singles chart at numbers 2 and 3 respectively, and was the first time Bowie topped the U.K. album charts. It also marked his debut on the U.S. top 20 album chart, where ‘Time’ and ‘Let’s Spend The Night Together’ were follow ups to the ‘The Jean Genie’.

The cover of ALADDIN SANE has become one of the most striking and memorable images in rock n roll history and is thought to be the most expensive produced up to that point. The cover photograph was taken by Brian Duffy, who would also shoot the sleeves for 1979’s LODGER and 1980’s SCARY MONSTERS (AND SUPER CREEPS) and features Bowie with the iconic red and blue lightning bolt make-up, an image which has staked out an indelible spot in the planet’s cultural lexicon.

This new pressing of ALADDIN SANE was cut on a customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. The half-speed was cut by John Webber at AIR Studios.

Bowie described ALADDIN SANE as ‘Ziggy Goes To Washington: Ziggy under the influence of America’. The album was to be Ziggy Stardust's last stand, and the persona was laid to rest three months after the album's release in July 1973 at the infamous final show with the Spiders From Mars at London’s Hammersmith Odeon.

Celebrating what would have been Bowie’s 76th

“As long as there’s me, As long as there’s you…”

Lovely to see all the appreciation shown for David Bowie around the globe on what would have been his 76th birthday today.

The image here was taken by Jimmy King ten years ago on Bowie’s 66th. That year of 2013 saw the return of our man with the beautiful surprise that was Where Are We Now?

On the same day, The Next Day was announced, Bowie’s first album since the release of Reality ten years earlier in 2003.

Jean Genie video upgrade premiere

“Talking ’bout Monroe …” *

Mick Rock’s official The Jean Genie music video has received a bit of a polish and can now be enjoyed in 4K.

Watch it in real-time with fans across the globe this Sunday 8th January at 18:00 GMT on YouTube.

* Today’s lyric quotation is a reference to the fact that Bowie apparently wanted the video to depict “Ziggy as a kind of Hollywood street-rat” with a “consort of the Marilyn brand”. This led to Cyrinda Foxe’s casting, and she flew from New York to San Francisco especially for the shoot.
