DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 61

dbt061_1995_imans_cds_1080sq.jpg

“Heaven is smiling down...”

Back on December 2nd @iman kindly re-posted DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 21 with the following message...

+ - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - +

Who else is loving this like I am?

Let’s not forget I was a fan of his music way before we met & married!

So far it’s on Day 31 ... do share your comments on your faves... & I’ll share with you mine.

+ - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - +

It’s true. Iman saw Bowie live on the first Isolar tour in 1976, hard to imagine she had any clue as to where her future lay at that point.

Anyway, today’s actual #DailyBowieThing continues the general collector theme with the two CDs pictured in our montage. Both extremely rare, here are links to previous features we posted in 2018 regarding them both.

I AM IMAN book and CDR (2001)

1 - The Wedding (David Bowie)

2 - Wild Is The Wind (Tiomkin/Washington)

3 - Loving The Alien (David Bowie)

4 - As The World Falls Down (David Bowie)

5 - Abdulmajid (David Bowie/Brian Eno)

The Beauty of Color CD (2005)

1 - Fascination (David Bowie/Luther Vandross)

2 - I've Been Waiting For You (Neil Young)

3 - I'm Deranged (David Bowie/Brian Eno)

4 - Don't Let Me Down And Down (Tarha/Valmont)

5 - Abdulmajid (David Bowie/Brian Eno)

Thirty days after her post we're still going strong with #DailyBowieThing Day 61 on this the last day of the horrendous year that was 2020. Surely 2021 can only be better.

Hopefully, we’ll see you for Day 62 in the new year. Please stay safe.

David Bowie’s 25-year-old seasonal message

dbt055_1995_war_child_card_v3_1080sq.jpg

“Give my children sunny smiles, Give them room and cloudless skies...”

In 1995, David donated one of his artworks to the War Child charity for use as a Christmas card. The message inside the 1995 card is superimposed in our montage over a 1995 image of David stood in front of his British Conflicts and The Crouch Laura Ashley wallpaper.

We'd like to echo the sentiments of David’s message and take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support over 2020.

Meanwhile, War Child is still improving the lives of many children thanks to the continued kindness of donors.

The headline says it all, keep reading for the press release.

London 17th December 2020

LAZARUS

BY David Bowie and Enda Walsh

DIRECTED BY Ivo van Hove

INSPIRED BY THE NOVEL The Man Who Fell To Earth by Walter Tevis

Exclusive Premiere Streaming on Dice.fm - TICKETS HERE NOW

Friday 8 January, 7pm – David Bowie’s birthday

Saturday 9 January, 7pm

Sunday 10 January, 3pm – fifth anniversary of David Bowie’s death

“WILD, FANTASTICAL, EYE-POPPING. A SURREALISTIC TOUR DE FORCE.” – Rolling Stone

To remember David Bowie on his birthday and to mark the fifth anniversary of his untimely death, producers Robert Fox and RZO Entertainment Inc are exclusively releasing the stream of the London production of Lazarus, captured live on stage. The streaming will be available for three performances only. This will be the UK premiere of the filmed version of this remarkable show.

Lazarus includes songs from Bowie’s iconic catalogue as well as new songs written for the stage including the title song, Lazarus.

Inspired by the book, The Man Who Fell To Earth, by Walter Tevis (“The Queen’s Gambit”) Lazarus focuses on Thomas Newton, as he remains still on Earth - a 'man' unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love. We follow Newton over the course of a few days where the arrival of another lost soul - might finally set him free.

Michael C Hall (“Dexter”, “Six Feet Under”) stars as Newton, the character famously portrayed by David Bowie in the 1976 screen adaptation of The Man Who Fell To Earth directed by Nicolas Roeg. Lazarus co-stars Sophia Anne Caruso (“Beetlejuice” on Broadway) and the production is directed by Ivo van Hove (“All About Eve”, “Network” and “A View From The Bridge”).

Lazarus opened at The New York Theatre Workshop in November 2015. The London production opened in November 2016 where it played a sold-out run.

This live-streamed event will be available for three performances only in multiple time zones (GMT, AEDT, EST, PST, CST) from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 January 2021.

The Lazarus Cast Album is available on RCA / ISO Records

Station To Station 45th red or white vinyl

“The return of the Thin White Duke”

DAVID BOWIE STATION TO STATION 45th ANNIVERSARY RED / WHITE VINYL

‘BRICKS & MORTAR’ EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION RELEASED 22nd JANUARY 2021

Originally released 23rd January 1976, Station To Station was David Bowie’s tenth studio album. To celebrate its 45th anniversary Parlophone is proud to announce a special limited edition ‘bricks & mortar’ only pressing of the album on both red & white vinyl.

Considered a classic among fans and critics alike, the record was unusual for a Bowie album in that it contained just six tracks, even though it still clocked in at a little over thirty-eight minutes.

For the first time ever, a David Bowie album was a bigger commercial success Stateside than in the UK. It reached #3 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on the official UK album chart.

Four of Station To Station’s six songs were released as commercial A-sides by RCA, with Golden Years being the pre-album hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The song scored Bowie yet another top ten just in time for the Christmas UK chart in 1975, where it remained right up to the release of the album in January 1976.

45 years on from its release, Station To Station is now seen as a musical bridge between the ‘plastic soul’ of 1975’s Young Americans and the start of Bowie’s Berlin era with 1977’s Low.
