Due to a bizarre dodgems incident**, we were unable to bring you the full skinny on the Q freebie CD yesterday, but now we jolly well can. In a promotional tie-in with HMV, Q Magazine has a cover-mounted CD entitled 'Chill Out'. Apart from Mr Bowie's very own beautiful Art Decade, the sixteen track disc contains a couple of our Dave's favourites in two delicious tracks: 'Underneath The Weeping Willow' and 'Holes', by Grandaddy and Mercury Rev, respectively. Page answered all sorts of questions ranging from discussions he had with David about songwriting to specific guitar effects in his arsenal to the pros and cons of an education in music.

Bowie Demo From '71 Sold At Christie's

Bowie's previously unheard demo recording of 'Star' was sold yesterday at Christie's auction house in London. The recording reportedly fetched £1,527. The previously unheard ½ inch reel-to-reel studio 1971 demo recording, which is quite different in style and content to the familiar Ziggy Stardust album version, was given to singer Les Payne for him to cover.

Beck Diamond Dogs Cover Completed

The Beck/Timbaland cover of Diamond Dogs has been completed and the song will be featured on the soundtrack of the Baz Luhrmann film 'Moulin Rouge', due for release on Christmas Day.

Bowie At The Beeb Q Review

People stared at the make-up on his face...

This months' Q magazine has a favourable review by David Quantick* of Bowie at the Beeb, accompanied by the delicious (I mean that in a manly way!) Mick Rock picture of Ziggy above. Rather Ironically, Mr Quantick singles out "two crunching versions" of Ziggy Stardust as particular favourites...he he he...Click on the image above to see the full review. Elsewhere in the magazine there are two more full page adverts for the album, a repeat of the MVC campaign ad, and a new ad from HMV.

*David Quantick is co-creator (along with Jane Bussmann) of The Junkies, the first online sitcom. The DIY comedy about "the three stupidest heroin addicts in the world" was made on an unbelievably small budget of £3,500. Check it out.

Bowie Survivor Game

Some fans have started a Bowie/Survivor crossover game-- complete with immunity challenges, and a poll for visitors to vote on which Bowie to get rid of.

It seems our Sailor got it into his head to buy an island in the Mediterranean and name it Zahra-Zahra. He has also gotten ahold of a transmogrifier machine and let out 24 replicas of himself-- well, these replicas (one from each era/movie) have split into three teams (with luxury items for each Bowie).

Holly Palmer In New York Tonight And Tomorrow!

Holly Palmer and her trio will be performing in Manhattan tonight at The Lounge (formerly known as the Dark Star Lounge) tonight at 9PM EST! The Lounge is located at:

She'll be playing tomorrow evening as well at The Bottom Line (two sets at 7:30 and 10:30), where Gail played just last month. The Bottom Line is on W. 4th and Mercer Streets in the Village:

Bowie At The Beeb Ltd 3cd Set - More Limited Than You Thought!

Due to a mis-pressing of CD2 of the Bowie at the Beeb set, keen-eared observers will have noticed a striking similarity between the two versions of Ziggy Stardust. This is primarily because they are the same version! EMI are already on the case and they have suggested a neat solution that should keep everybody happy. The plan is that anybody who has purchased a copy of this initial batch will be able to claim a free single-track replacement CD containing the missing version of Ziggy. Hey Presto!...Instant collector's item. Future pressings of the set will contain the proper versions.

Who will you be after you die?

Remember this game? Omikron: The Nomad Soul. If you've played it, then you may know that not only did David do the soundtrack for it, he also appears in animated form playing a concert somewhere in the game. Then again you may not, because we understand that it's pretty deep into the game when you reach the concert. Anyhow, it is way cool and we have a clip of some of the action right here!

New Placebo Cd For Your Questions!

The Bowienet interview with Placebo is this Friday, 29th September! Send in your questions now, and you might win a promo of their new album, BLACK MARKET MUSIC, or the single TASTE IN MEN.

The publicity machine for the new album is in full swing, with the above being just one of the front covers graced by the band at the moment. In the seven page article inside, 'Rock Sound' have this to say about the new album.

"There's no mistaking a full throttle return to the fore with an album that will touch you in places you didn't even know existed."

Having listened to it, I really cannot disagree. These very diverse songs have immediate appeal, but also a subtlety which involves and intrigues more and more with each listen. If you liked the first two albums, you will also love this one, and if you are new to Placebo, this album could be a great place to start.
