David Bowie Is No Dummy!

And now she is a puppet dancer...

You guessed it...The girl with the static lips is none other than our very own Piccadilly, AKA Carla Rhodes. Here is what The Telegraph had to say about our girl:

"Accompanying Vox is his frizzy-haired protégéé, 18-year-old Carla Rhodes, whose dummy Victoria has "breasts that don't quit" and a navel ring. Some of the stiffer elements among the ventriloquists find this a bit much, but others see Carla as proof that the profession can attract new blood."

The puppet Carla is pictured with is famous for its onstage appearance with the real David Bowie at the Kit-Kat-Klub in New York last year, and while this sort of thing may be perfectly acceptable in The United States, us Brits don't take kindly to the tranquillity of our Sunday mornings being shattered by the likes of Carla Rhodes screaming from our broad-sheets!...Bloody Americans...come over here, take our puppets, take our drugs, take away our clothes and things...

If you really feel the need to investigate further, you can always visit http://carlarhodes.tripod.com but don't say I didn't warn you.

Never Mind The Soundtrack...win Sex Pistols Videos

You feeling lucky punk?

Yes, yes, yes...I know we said we'd post this competition on Monday...But this is a Sex Pistols competition and it don't care! Anyway, on with it...

Uncommonly generous BowieNetter Rus Philips (along with his Bowie-mad son Ryan and Film Four), has kindly donated ten copies of the most excellent Sex Pistols rockumentary, 'The Filth And The Fury' - You may remember my review of the film some months back and how the soundtrack included the David Bowie song....Ah, that's the bit you have to tell me to win a copy you see. What David Bowie song is not only featured on the soundtrack but also enjoys a quick burst in the film itself via the brilliant Mick Rock video, thereby narrowing the field even further. The video is released on September 11th here in the UK and these copies are rare pre-release UK PAL format versions. So if you can't play PAL, please don't enter. As soon as you think you know the answer, send it to MrTotalBlamBlam@aol.com with a subject heading of 'SEX PISTOLS FILM'.

As I said in my preview of this competition, If you were a winner of the Sex Pistols soundtrack CD there is no need to take part now, as you will be receiving a copy of the video as well as the soundtrack CD by way of compensation for the long wait you have endured for your prize. These are extra copies and do not affect the ten offered as prizes here now. The competition is open until this time next week, when the ten winners will be picked by our expensive random generator.

GET PISSED...DESTROY!!!

Painting The Century

At: National Portrait Gallery
Date: 26 Oct 2000 - 04 Feb 2001

Held in the Ground Floor Galleries. One hundred major portraits loaned from collections around the world constitute what is probably the most ambitious exhibition being mounted in London to celebrate the new millennium. For every year of the twentieth century, from 1900-2000, there will be one portrait painted and dateable to that year, by artists of the stature of Munch, Picasso, Beckmann, Grosz, Bacon, Warhol and Freud. Sitters as diverse as Lenin, Elvis Presley, Thatcher and David Bowie are seen in the context of a comprehensive, multifaceted chronology of the history and culture of our times. Tickets: Adults £5.00 Concessions £4.00

It's The Freakiest Show

I recall how we lived on the corner of a bed...

Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) at 8:00pm (GMT) Adrian Berry's play 'From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads' opens at the Camden People's Theatre in London. The play is the first production by London-based Tiny Dynamite (who presumably take their name from The Cocteau Twins release of the same name?). Featuring a cast of eight and the pretty convincing voice of comedian Rob Newman as David Bowie, 'From Ibiza...' also employs several original Bowie songs throughout the play. Among others Rock 'n' Roll Suicide, Starman, Life On Mars?, Lady Grinning Soul and Little Wonder are used to great effect.

Go here for a brief synopsis and to see the press release. Click on the image above to see my pictures of the cast taken at rehearsals last week, but please note these were not full dress rehearsals. I intend to post a review of the play sometime after I have seen it on Wednesday.

If you woud like to contribute, they are suggesting a $5 contribution, but $1 or $ 2 is fine - or if you can do more, that's great too!Whatever you can contribute is wonderful. US checks made out to Save theChildren (or if need be you can send cash)can be sent to:

David Emerson

For those that are unable to send in either US dollars or pounds or francs, theycan of course contribute directly at www.savethechildren.org

Donations are being accepted until September 12, so that the collectivedonations can be sent in for the baby's 1 month birthday on Sept. 15. At thatpoint, a card with the names of all the contributors will also be put togetherand the organizers will try and get it off to David and Iman. (Incidentally,"Sailor" when hearing about this on the BowieNet message board replied "This isso very cool. Thank you very much indeed. Sailor and Mummy and Alex").

So here's a chance to share in the joy of this wonderul occasion, and help somechildren who are truly in need.Check David Emerson's site for more details and updates at www.geocities.com/coyote_sunrise

Lawsuit Dismissed

A lawsuit filed by the Pullman Group against Prudential Insurance last November was dismissed earlier this week, concluding a 10-month old lawsuit. David Pullman, the architect of the so-called Bowie Bonds, had his lawsuit dismissed by New York Supreme Court judge Justice Beatrice Shainswit. Shainswit found that Pullman lacked standing to sue for infringement of his claim of intellectual property rights on the grounds that any ownership interests belonged to the securities firm of Gruntal & Co. because Mr. Pullman developed his concept for intellectual property securitization while he was still a company employee. Included in the $2.5 billion lawsuit was RZO, the publishing/copyright arm for much of Bowie's work.

This Is The Bbc World Service...

Those clever chaps at EMI have produced a rather special promo sampler for the 'Bowie at the BEEB' set due on 25th September. This impossibly rare eight-track promo CD takes the form of a reel-to-reel tape in a tape box, and jolly nice it is too. For a closer look and a full track listing, click on the image above (try the box and the CD). As you might imagine, we have managed to procure ten of these beauties to give out to a few of you lucky BowieNutters!!

As if that wasn't enough to tickle your fancy, we also have ten even rarer CDRs of the third limited CD from the BEEB set, the recording of David's performance from The Radio Theatre back in June. Even baby Steve K knows that this CDR is rarer than hen's teeth, and in fact probably even rarer than baby Steve's own teeth!

"What's the catch?"... I hear you cry...There's no catch my friends, well only a little one. Just to keep things at fever pitch we have decided not to run this competition until Thursday evening, at 6:00pm EST (11:00 GMT). I know we can never satisfy everybody with our competition times but at least you have time to book your babysitter Mrs K.

Meantime check back to this page on Monday for your chance to win one of ten Sex Pistols Videos, 'The Filth And The Fury' - If you were a winner of the Sex Pistols soundtrack CD from the same film, then there is no need to take part as you will be receiving a copy by way of compensation for your outrageously long wait for your prize. This generosity only applies to this competition, before those of you who have waited even longer for prizes start mailing me! };-)
