Christiane F. Released On Dvd Next Monday

Next Monday the harrowing true story of Christiane F. is re-released in the UK on video and for the first time on DVD. The film, that is apparently one of Germany's all time top grossing, is well known among Bowie fans due to it having a soundtrack comprising of only Bowie's music, and for the fact that it features a cameo appearance from the Duke himself in one of his most stylish and memorable performances. Go here for more.

Soundtrack Correction!

Contrary to what we mentioned yesterday, the version of Diamond Dogs by BECK will be a COVER, not a REMIX. Ah, the delectable details....=8-) Moulin Rouge, the new film by Baz Luhrmann (Romeo and Juliet) starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor will feature two David Bowie songs in a medley sung by Ewan MacGregor. Both Heroes and Diamond Dogs will be a part of the medley which also features songs by U2 and Whitney Houston, among others. A cover of Diamond Dogs by BECK will also be included on the soundtrack. Special Bowie events, concerts, and plenty of exclusive BowieNet content will be in the Special Features section. Galleries, Webcasts, and special sections featured on BowieNet. From live gigs to art galleries to film clips to musicians or friends of DB and the Bowie-family. Be sure not to miss any of the Special Features.

Got My Mojo Working, Again!

Mojo magazine have proved once more that David Bowie still has his finger on the pulse by including a track on their cover disc that he resurrected over a year ago. The track was used as part of Mojo?s in-depth coverage of the year 1965, even if they did use the 1966 release ?Can't Help Thinking About Me?! (Though in fairness I guess it was recorded in '65.)

But apart from that feature (already covered expertly here by Spaceface last week), the magazine also ran a piece about those awfully tacky 'Top of the Pops' cover albums that were so popular throughout the seventies. Intrigued? Then go here.

Soundtrack Again?!

As reported by NME (the paper, not the site), Beck has been working with hip hop producer Timbaland to remix David Bowie's Diamond Dogs for Baz Luhrmann's new movie.

The film is reportedly a re-make of 'The Moulin Rouge' starring Ewan Macgregor (of Velvet Goldmine and Trainspotting fame), and Nicole Kidman. The music for the film is being put together by Marius DeVries who remixed 'Seven' and 'Survive.'

Connections galore eh?

Ewan: Velvet Goldmine and Trainspotting
Beck: Remixed 'Seven'
Marius: Remixed 'Survive' and 'Seven'

Now if only we could come up with a Nicole Kidman connection. Hmmmm....any ideas?

Hologram Site

Check out the big brains on Brad! Er...no, that's not it....

Check out the website for T.H.I.S. (the Holographic Image Studio) - the same studio that designed the hologram for the 'hours...' CD. In David's words:

"I don't think I've ever quite experienced Holograms like these, they really are magnificent. They almost become part of ones family, and a very disturbing and OTHERLY family at that."

Teenage Wildlife has an interesting interview with designer Martin Richardson of T.H.I.S. - Click here to check it out!

Billy Rapped All Night About His Suicide

You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone, sure enough...Now that he is no longer with us, the work of Billy Mackenzie is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Record company V2 have re-issued two classic albums (Fourth Drawer Down and Sulk) by the Associates, the band that was fronted by the enigmatic Scot, who, following the death of his mother, took his own life in January 1997. And what has all this to do with David Bowie, I hear you impatiently inquire? Not a lot, but go here for my tenuous link anyway!

Alien Eyes?

Bowie gets a quick mention in the first minute of the new movie 'Saving Grace.' The movie is about an aristocratic English widower who becomes financially insecure. To remedy the situation, she is helped by the caretaker of her manor who suggests that she use her greenhouse to grow pot to raise cash.

Two of the main characters start the movie chatting about aliens on planet earth, saying "yeah, it's like that David Bowie movie The Man Who Fell to Earth." One of the characters goes on to convince his friend that Bowie (among other here on earth) is actually an alien stating "have you ever looked into Bowie's eyes?"

A quick, funny scene that Bowie fans will appreciate.

thanks howardj!

Dame Dorsey Update!

We just got a letter from Gail who as you know is super busy preparing for the Dar Williams tour. She writes:

I am still doing this Dar Williams tour starting in September. I have been very, very busy with her since I finished recording with David. The three Bottom Line gigs for Dar's album launch on August 22, 23, and 24th are still happening, and I think they are already sold out. The following week, I have a 20-30 minute SOLO set at the Bottom Line on Wednesday, August 30th!!! (I'm scared! Not enough time to prepare because of the Dar shit taking up all of my time, but whadaya-gonna-do??) My performance is part of 'Songbirds Night' at The Bottom Line, and it is associated with Fordham University Radio Station, FUV 90.7FM. I believe the show has a simultaneous radio broadcast on that station, and they are promoting and presenting the whole deal. There are two shows, an 8PM set and 10:30PM (I think that's how it works).

I will also be doing a solo performance in Woodstock at The Byrdcliffe Theater on September 8th. It is a benefit concert to raise money for a local family whose 2 year old son has terminal cancer. Tickets are on sale for $35, and special 'royal circle' tickets for $75 include a chance to talk with the "artists" after the show, complimentary wine/refreshments, and really good seats. The other performers are Kate Pierson of The B-52'S, and singer/songwriter Jules Shear. There may be more added to the bill, but Kate, Jules and I are the headliners so far. Are there any Bowienetters hiding up in the Catskills? ;)

YEAH!!! Go Gail!

Bowienet Add-ons

You've undoubtedly seen these by now, but we haven't "formally" announced them in light of...er....bigger news. BUT, there are some cool new features in place on BowieNet that came into being at about the same time as 'lil Alexandria! These include:

The 'Mutations' Box with links to more Special Features

A 'Tip of the Day' Box in the right corner of the Infectious Box

An Express link to the Discourse Area (this will alternate with express links to other areas)

Kimberly Wins!

In case you missed it - BowieNetter Kimberly was remarkably close in guessing the wheres and whens regarding little Alexandria. Coming soon - Kimberly's Psychic Network! =8-)

Kimberly guessed:

August 15th
7 pounds, 4 ounces
4:34 am
20 inches

It might take a little time to get the portrait signed, what with the Bowies' entering into an "intense but very private time..." but at least this gives you a little time to clear some wall space....
