Four Bowie Albums In All Time Top 100

div align="center">

Haven't actually seen a copy yet, but the June issue of Q has a reader survey of what they consider to be the 100 Greatest British Albums of All-Time. DB has a healthy representation with four albums in the top 30, they are:

#30 Scary Monsters and Super Creeps

#25 The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars

#16 Hunky Dory

#14 Low

Four masterpieces I'm sure you would agree, but perhaps not in quite the order one would expect. Whatever, well done David, here's to the time, (in the not too distant future) when Joe Public wises up enough to get four albums into the top ten! For a comparison with the last similar poll that Q carried out, click on the logo above.

Remember that David Bowie is the subject of 'Cash For Questions' in the July issue of Q, which looks like being a helluva lotta fun. Email your questions to: q@ecm.emap.com

Holly Palmer Singer Newsletter

The Official Holly Palmer Singer Newsletter is in effect! The inaugural mail was sent to us by the folks at HollyPalmerSinger.com:

Hi everyone,
This is the inaugural edition of the Holly Palmer Singer Newsletter. Most of you were transferred from Jason Lent's Holly Palmer email list. I'd like to thank Jason for the help he's given to Holly over the years... what a terrific guy, and what a terrific boost he's given her career. He still runs a great website for Holly, check it out at:

http://geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palms/6394

Holly's album release has been pushed back to the summer, but as anyone who's heard the new songs can testify, the wait will be worth it! Work is also underway to develop HollyPalmerSinger.com version 2. Look for it in the coming months. Until then, we'll put up a few tidbits here, starting with some new pics and hopefully a video! Stay tuned!

Those in the NYC area are invited out to a series of shows at Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton St. between Ludlow and Orchard):

May 2nd, 10pm
May 9th, 9pm
May 16th, 9pm

I'll end off with a diary entry from Holly.

Hope to see you all at a future Holly show!

Psycho-time-bomb Planet - The Winners

About 95% of you got the idea this time, the answer I was looking for was of course: "Not this psycho-time-bomb planet" from the song Tin Machine. As I'm sure you all know, the song is the title track on the band's eponymous debut album, and it was co-written by all four members of this unfortunately democratic collection of musicians. As far as I am aware this was the only possible answer, but if you know differently then another copy of the CD will be on its way to the first person who tells me so. 'Psychodelicate' from 'Because You're Young' does not count, because it isn't the word psycho! Go here for the first five correct entries in order of arrival.

Mixmaster Beck

Due out this coming June, an exciting mix of DB's new single 'Seven' by the ever-popular ever-bizarre, Beck! Here is a press clipping about the mix from Platform.net.

Beck, the vanilla-dipped soul brotha, is apparently looking to expand his resume credentials: he's recently racked up some new remixing credits. Beck applied his golden touch to David Bowie's new single "Seven," from Bowie's Hours CD. The single will hit stores this June.

Go to Beck News @ Platform.net

Genre-splicing troubadour Beck has remixed the new David Bowie single 'Seven'.

The track will be the third to be taken from Bowie's current album 'hours' and will be released in June.

It will coincide with Bowie's headlining appearance at Glastonbury at the end of that month. Beck is scheduled to appear at the Reading/Leeds festival in August.

European T.v. Special

Tomorrow, the 22nd of April on the German/French TV -channel called "Arte" there is a programme called "Metropolis". The programme will begin in Germany at 21.40 pm and lasts till 22.40pm. The theme will be "The cybertalk: David Bowie". "Metropolis" is a cultural programme and features usually the European art and music-scene.

Here is a bit more info about the show from the "Arte" website:

deutsh:

The Whitney Biennial

It's that time again. Biennial fever must be hitting New York with the Whitney show opening its doors last month. For those of us unable to visit the exhibition in real time there is the Whitney website at www.whitney.org, which although full of fantastic online gizmos is rather weak on imagery. However amongst other things, such as guided tours, you can access the Internet art which is new to the show this year. (It was the Whitney Biennial remember that recommended we embrace video art, photography and installation all those years ago when the only appendage artists were permitted by most was a paintbrush).

The one exhibit Bowieart are particularly sorry to miss is that by the mischievous Hans Haacke whose installation concern's Giuliani's attempts to close the Brooklyn Museum's version of Sensation. All we can offer those not fortunate enough to be able to visit the gallery is the picture here.
