Netaid In Usa Today

USA Today has an article about Saturday's Net Aid concert in Wembly Arena, London, England:

    Here is an excerpt:
"With long hair framing his gaunt face and suspenders holding up elegant pants, Bowie in his latest incarnation seems a perfect cross between Ziggy Stardust and the Thin White Duke, eccentricity melding with sophistication."

"In the audience, Boy George sang along to the lilting Drive-In Saturday, while everyone seemed to remember some of the words to China Girl and Life on Mars. Though the concert still had a few hours to run, it was Bowie's Rebel Rebel, ground out with a strut and a sly smile, that resonated long after the nine performers had headed home in long black limousines."

"After donating to NetAid, one might consider investing in Bowie, whose stock-market listing could only get a boost from his redemption of Saturday's well-intentioned but uninspiring show."

    Here was the set list:

    Thursday's Child
    Can't Help Thinking
    Word On A Wing
    China Girl
    Repitition

Included in the audience was Joe Elliot from Def Leppard, members of the huge Irish boybandBoyzone, and Irish singing phenomenon The Corrs were there as well.

The strangest guests of all were Andrew Lloyd Webber (Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, etc) and Mr. Riverdance himself Michael Flatley!

Here is a review from Ireland biggest selling eveningnewspaper: The Evening Herald, written by Dermott Hayes:

Legend has its own place in social history and David Bowie is one very realand very vital musical legend.

All of this he proved and much more when he headlined the inaugural Witness(Guinness) invite only show in the Hot Press Hall of Fame last night. And every celebrity in Ireland checked it out to suss out what was happeningand to pay homage to someone who has always defied definition butpersonified celebrity.

Kicking off the show with a spirited ballad version of Life on Mars, Bowiebrought his audience through a musical kaleidoscope of his career fromChanges to China Girl and far beyond.

Rolling Stone Review

Available on news stands in the October 28th edition of Rolling Stone, this Rolling Stone Review ( * * * * ) calls 'hours...' ...a testament to the serenity that comes with legend status, maturity and endurance.

    Here is an excerpt:
Bowie's twenty-third album is as nakedly emotive a collection as anything in his ironic catalog; it's a summary statement from the man who invented postmodern rock & roll, so school is in session. But teacher is more concerned with baring wounds than with making big statements: "The pretty things are going to hell/They wore it out, but they were well" is as big as it gets.

The sentiment sounds chucked from Johnny Rotten's diary, almost a kiss-off from the rock era. Bowie is probably the only cat around with the history, irony and distance to deliver that lyric as self-critique, death sentence, feud reminiscence and party favor all the same time.

You can read the entire article here on BowieNet now. Thanks to our friends at Rolling Stone for the article.

Q Says...

The November issue of Q MAGAZINE has a review of "Hours..."

    Here is an excerpt:
'hours...' is a richly textured and emotionally vividset.

'Thursday's Child and If I'm Dreaming My Life have theemotional throb of his tremulous '70's ballads "Can YouHear Me" and "Word on A Wing'

'This time around, Bowie sounds influenced by nobodyexcept himself, and he couldn't have picked a betterrole model.'

    **** four stars!
