Michael Clark's New Work Details

Shake it up, shake it up. Move it up, move it up...

More details have emerged regarding the new Michael Clark work that we told you about in March and April. (03.10.2009 NEWS: NEW MICHAEL CLARK WORK CELEBRATES, BOWIE, IGGY & LOU & 04.23.2009 NEWS: SCHEDULE FOR MICHAEL CLARK'S NEW WORK ANNOUNCED)

It seems it's a two-part piece that goes under the title of Swan Lack - Thank U Ma?am and it breaks down thus...

Swan Lack

Thank U Ma'am

Choreographer: Michael Clark
Composers: David Bowie, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop
Lighting Designer: Charles Atlas
Costumes: Stevie Stewart, Michael Clark
Music: Mass Production (Iggy Pop/David Bowie), Sense of Doubt (David Bowie),?Heroes? (David Bowie/Brian Eno), After All, Future Legend, Chant Of The Ever-Circling Skeletal Family, Aladdin Sane, The Jean Genie (David Bowie)
Dancers: Kate Coyne, Melissa Hetherington, Oxana Panchenko, Clair Thomas, Benjamin Warbis, Simon Williams

As you can see, Thank U Ma'am utilises the music of David Bowie, Brian Eno and Iggy Pop, though there's not much Lou Reed in evidence. This despite the fact that the work ?evolves from Michael Clark?s admiration for the music of rock?s holy trinity? Bowie. Pop and Reed. Perhaps Lou's presence is more apparent in the actual performance.

I had the good fortune to witness Wire perform Pink Flag at London's The Barbican back in 2003 for which the visual accompaniment was Michael Clark dancers in BodyMap clobber dancing on plinths in front of the band...and very good it was too. I imagine this is somehow related to Swan Lack.

Check out Michael Clark Company diary page for booking details. Tickets for most performances are now on sale.
