Db Enthuses Further About El Automovil Gris

And the wheels are turning, turning...

I hinted at David Bowie's enthusiasm for the opening night performance of El Automóvil Gris (The Grey Automobile) for his presentation of 10 LATIN AMERICAN & SPANISH FILMS FROM THE LAST 100 YEARS in the news item below this. But he has since e-mailed in to expand upon that.

If you're attending anyway, you may want to skip what he has to say, as there is mention of the film's grisly ending. Over to you David...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Opening Night Film and Performance: Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes? production of El Automóvil Gris (The Grey Automobile) - Fri May 11, 7:30pm, $35. Quad Cinema, 34 West 13th Street.

Tickets available here.

"The first opening night performance, which I wouldn't miss for the world, is a bank robbery based epic from 1919, some of it staged and some of it real news footage of the time (including the real life execution of the bank robbers at the conclusion, ooo-er).

What will make this performance special is the addition of the theater group "Certain Inhabitants Theater" who lip synch in English and Spanish and accompany the film with a piano score. Be there or be square."

So there you have it. Ignore his advice at your peril. David also sent in this link to some stills from the performance, which I'm sure can only give you a tiny taste of the night's entertainment.

It's worth checking out the Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes's site too.

If you are one of the lucky attendees, please send in your report of what promises to be an incredible evening.

By the way, "The first opening night performance" isn't a bit of tautology from David, as there is indeed another film being shown later the same evening at 10:00pm: Alberto Gout's 1949 film Aventurera, which will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles.
