Emi To Release Glass Spider Dvd

But the Glass Spider would have long gone...

EMI plans to reissue David Bowie's Glass Spider film on DVD next year. Glass Spider is a record of the tour of the same name, filmed at Sydney, Entertainment Center in November 1987.

DVDs of what I believe to be an unofficial nature (see above) have been around for a while, but this is the first time the film will enjoy an official digital release, and will obviously be improved in the digital transfer, as was the recently released Serious Moonlight DVD. That's unlike the pirate versions circulating which are often inferior copies from the original video tape releases.

Here's the full tracklisting for Glass Spider:

01 Glass Spider
02 Day In Day Out
03 Bang Bang
04 Absolute Beginners
05 Loving The Alien
06 China Girl
07 Rebel Rebel
08 Fashion
09 Never Let Me Down
10 "Heroes"
11 Sons Of The Silent Age
12 Young Americans
13 The Jean Genie
14 Let's Dance
15 Time
16 Fame
17 Blue Jean
18 I Wanna Be Your Dog
19 White Light/White Heat
20 Modern Love
21 Glass Spider
(Bonus track from Vienna)

The bonus track is Glass Spider live from Prater Stadium in Vienna recorded in July of the same year and originally released on the 1987 video EP, Never Let Me Down - The Videos.

The total running time (including the bonus track) will be approximately 110 minutes. There are also plans for a photo gallery on the DVD.

At the moment we're looking at a release around the second quarter of 2007 to tie in roughly with the 20th anniversary of the start of the original tour.

As the release schedule is sometimes subject to change, I'm reluctant to provide a more definite date, in much the same way that a father is loath to give his children an ETA on a holiday car journey..."How much longer, dad? You said midday!", etc. };-)

The Complete David Bowie By Nicholas Pegg

Reynolds & Hearn Ltd announces the official publication of

THE COMPLETE DAVID BOWIE by Nicholas Pegg
Expanded and Updated Fourth Edition
5 August 2006

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I can't imagine how this book could be better ... the definitive read for Bowiephiles'
Uncut
'Absolutely thorough, absolutely definitive and absolutely entertaining'
BBC Radio 5 Live
'An indispensable guide for all serious collectors of David Bowie's music'
BowieNet
'This is not just a trainspotter's manual - Nicholas Pegg has a keen critical intelligence'
Sunday Telegraph
'The Complete David Bowie certainly lives up to its title ... Pegg's opinionated and witty prose turns it into that rare thing: a reference book that sparkles'
MOJO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Critically acclaimed in its previous editions, Nicholas Pegg's ground-breaking reference book The Complete David Bowie has been widely recognized as the foremost source of detailed information and perceptive critical analysis of every aspect of David Bowie's career. Previous editions have won nominations as music book of the year from Uncut magazine ('I can't imagine how this book could be any better') and BBC Radio 5 Live ('Absolutely thorough, absolutely definitive and absolutely entertaining') among many other plaudits.

Reynolds & Hearn Ltd are now delighted to announce the publication of the fourth edition. Published on 5 August 2006, The Complete David Bowie will once again be fully revised and updated, expanding on previous editions to provide even more detail and discussion than before.

All the latest developments will be included in the new edition, ranging from Bowie's recent collaborations with artists like David Gilmour, Kashmir, TV On The Radio, BT and Arcade Fire, to his latest forays into acting in Extras, The Prestige and Arthur and the Minimoys, soundtrack projects like Shrek 2 and The Life Aquatic, the flood of archive releases that have appeared over the last few years including the Serious Moonlight, Love You Till Tuesday, Live Aid and A Reality Tour DVDs, and the expanded reissues of classic albums David Live and Stage.

'This new edition offers the chance to bring everything right up to date', says Nicholas Pegg. 'When the last edition appeared, David Bowie's mammoth 2003-2004 world tour was still in full swing. The new edition includes the full story of A Reality Tour and its unexpected curtailment - and, on a happier note, Bowie's spectacular return to live performances with Arcade Fire and David Gilmour.'

As well as incorporating all the latest updates, the new edition will revise and expand the detail of the earlier chapters. 'The encyclopaedic nature of the book means that every chapter needs constant updating', Pegg explains. 'Just like last time it's been a long and thorough overhaul incorporating thousands of words of new material, so there are fresh nuggets of information everywhere you look!'

As before, The Complete David Bowie will include:
* The Albums - detailed production history and analysis of every album from 1967 to the present day.
* The Songs - hundreds of individual entries reveal the facts and anecdotes behind not just the famous recordings, but also the most obscure of unreleased rarities - from 'Absolute Beginners' to 'Ziggy Stardust', from 'Abdulmajid' to 'Zion'.
* The Tours - set-lists and histories of every live show.
* The Actor - a complete guide to Bowie's work on stage and screen.
* Dateline - the most exhaustive day-by-day calendar of Bowie's career ever published.
* Plus - the videos, the BBC radio sessions, the paintings, the Internet and much more.

From the 11-year-old's skiffle performance at the 18th Bromley Scouts' Summer Camp in 1958, to the 59-year-old's appointment as curator of New York City's High Line Festival in 2007, The Complete David Bowie discusses and dissects every last move in rock's most fascinating career.

Extra Extras...read All About It

No one over here reads the papers pal...

This item is nothing much more than an excuse for a gratuitous posting of another of the pictures I took at the EXTRAS shoot. (06.07.2006 NEWS: BOWIE PART FILMED FOR EXTRAS & 06.09.2006 NEWS: NEW BOWIE PORTRAITS FROM EXTRAS SHOOT)

As ever, BowieNet members can click on the image above to reach a bigger version on the MBs.

While we're on the subject of the filming of EXTRAS, I meant to post this one at the time, but it slipped through the net.

BowieNetter neukolner sent in the scans above from his local paper, The Hertfordshire Mercury, which, as you can see, made an understandably big deal of the fact that the sleepy village of Hertford had been visited by the world's favourite Rock God.

You can read the feature online, (as I'm sure the majority of you already have) but one bit that tickled me was about local girl, Bridget Gill, who managed to outwit security and Fleet Street paparazzi by getting a few snaps for the Mercury.

However, according to the paper, Bridget admitted she's not a big Bowie fan, but was impressed when Shaun Williamson, who played Barry Evans in BBC soap EastEnders, arrived on set!

Well, I did manage to get some pix of Shaun too, so if the demand is great enough, I'll post some of those on the MBs. };-)

The second series of EXTRAS starts on BBC2 in the UK at 10:00pm on September 14th.

First Look At Db As Nikola Tesla In The Prestige Trailer

"Nothing is impossible..." David Bowie as Nikola Tesla in forthcoming motion picture, The Prestige.

Here are we, one magical moment...

The trailer for The Prestige is now available for your viewing pleasure over at apple.com.

We've mentioned this film a couple of times on these pages (11.21.05 NEWS: DB CONFIRMS ROLE AS NIKOLA TESLA IN THE PRESTIGE & 02.21.2006 NEWS: THE PRESTIGE DUE FOR AUTUMN RELEASE) but this trailer will give you the best glimpse yet at where the film is coming from...and I have to say, it looks jolly exciting!

"Blue, blue, electric blue, that's the colour..." A toon Tesla looks menacingly down upon proceedings.

Above is a don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it still of the stage backdrop depicting DB as Nikola Tesla...I wonder where it went after filming was completed? That'd look great on my lounge wall!

Click on the images above or go here to view the trailer now. Thanks to BowieNetter Mooch for the pointer.

Baal Ep And Btwn Extras Digital Downloads Due

It was a day in that blue month September...

EMI plans to release a few things through iTunes on September 25th.

First up, pictured above, is the much underrated, (but loved by most fans I know) BAAL EP, which was originally released in February 1982.

The 5-track recording has never been available in its entirety in the digital format, though two of the tracks (Baal's Hymn and The Drowned Girl) were released on the EMI Sound + Vision 4CD box set in 2003.

Here's the full tracklisting of the original EP and the downloadable version due in September...

01 Baal's Hymn (4.02)
02 Remembering Marie A.
(2.04)
03 Ballad Of The Adventurers
(1.54)
04 The Drowned Girl
(2.24)
05 Dirty Song
(0.37)

As I'm sure those of you reading this already know, Baal is a musical by Bertolt Brecht in which David Bowie played the main character of Baal for the March 1982 BBC television adaptation. It was translated to English by John Willett and adapted for television by Alan Clarke and John Willett.

The songs, (which were written by Bertolt Brecht and translated by Dominic Muldowney) were recorded for release to tie in with the screening (they are different to the actual TV versions) and were produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti.

Remembering Marie A. has always been a personal favourite, so it's great to see these songs finally released in this format...I truly believe David Bowie gave one of his very finest vocal performances for these recordings.

The David Mallet directed video for The Drowned Girl is also scheduled to be released via iTunes on the same day.

As if this isn't enough, the second disc from the 2003 Limited Edition 2CD+DVD release of Black Tie White Noise (06.24.2003 NEWS: BTWN LIMITED EDITION 3 DISC SET RELEASE DELAYED IN US) will also be released via iTunes on September 25th.

Here's the full tracklisting for that:

01 Real Cool World (5.25)
Previously only available on the Warners soundtrack album Songs From The Cool World (9362-45009-2).
02 Lucy Can't Dance (5.48)
B-side previously available as a bonus track on the CD version of the original album release.
03 Jump They Say (Rock Mix) (4.04)
Previously unreleased commercially. Only previously available on a Savage Records CD promo (SADJ-50044-2) in the US.
04 Black Tie White Noise (3rd Floor US Radio Mix) (3.40)
Previously released commercially on a Savage Records CD single (74785-5045-2) in the US.
05 Miracle Goodnight (Make Believe Mix) (4.28)
Previously only available on the Miracle Goodnight 12" single (74321 16226 1) on Arista. Previously unavailable on CD.
06 Don't Let Me Down And Down (Indonesian Vocal Version) (4.53)
Previously only available on the Arista CD & cassette version of the album in Singapore (72431 14071 2).
07 You've Been Around (Dangers 12" Remix) (7.39)
Previously released on the Arista Black Tie White Noise CD single (72431 14868 2) in edited form. This full mix is previously unreleased.
08 Jump They Say (Brothers In Rhythm 12" Remix) (8.22)
Previously released on the Arista Jump They Say CD single (72431 13943 2).
09 Black Tie White Noise (Here Come Da Jazz) (5.32)
Only previously available on an Arista UK 12" promo (BLACK 1).
10 Pallas Athena (Don't Stop Praying Remix No 2) (7.26)
Only previously available on an Arista UK 12" promo (MEAT 1).
11 Nite Flights (Moodswings Back To Basics Remix) (9.52)
Previously only released on an Arista UK 12" promo (HOME 1).
12 Jump They Say (Dub Oddity) (6.13)

Obviously, the previously unavailable comments refer to the 2003 CD issue.

Tribute To Syd Barrett From Db

Syd Barrett by George Underwood - Collection of David Bowie

Float on a river for ever and ever...

It is with much sadness that we report the death of Syd Barrett who passed away on Friday of a diabetes-related illness at the age of 60.

Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965 with Roger Waters and wrote many of the band's early songs, including their first ever single, Arnold Layne, which DB performed with Dave Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall last month. (05.30.2006 NEWS: DB SURPRISE GUEST AT LONDON GILMOUR GIG) Bowie also recorded a remarkable version of their second single, See Emily Play, for his 1973 covers album, Pin Ups.

Bowie's love of Syd and his music was made obvious over the years during many interviews, and not least of all in this brief tribute from David which we've just received...

"I can't tell you how sad I feel. Syd was a major inspiration for me. The few times I saw him perform in London at UFO and the Marquee clubs during the sixties will forever be etched in my mind. He was so charismatic and such a startlingly original songwriter.

Also, along with Anthony Newley, he was the first guy I'd heard to sing pop or rock with a British accent. His impact on my thinking was enormous. A major regret is that I never got to know him. A diamond indeed." - David Bowie, July 11th 2006

G'night Syd...thanks for pushing things forward and giving others the courage to tread where they might not have otherwise.

Bowie Praises Science Fiction Tap Opera...kind Of

Take your protein pills and put your fucking helmet on...

OK, it's probably best to use the words of the Chicago Tap Theatre themselves for the background to this one...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHANGES... a Science-Fiction Tap Opera, featuring the music of David Bowie
Changes is the fourth story show created by Chicago Tap Theatre following last year?s sold out The Tell-Tale Tap: Stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Featuring the music of rock innovator David Bowie.

The story of Changes is grounded in science fiction, with the starting point being Bowie?s seminal work ?Ground Control to Major Tom.?

The raw, visceral power of Yonally's choreography communicates itself to audience members not only through their eyes and ears, but right up through their seats. Changes is yet another example of how Yonally and his company of sensual, intelligent dancers are changing the face of American dance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty normal stuff, I think you'll agree. But I thought it polite to run this one past DB before I posted it, seeing as how I wasn't sure if he was big on science fiction tap operas these days.

This was his measured response...

"It had to come to this? A tap musical. Bowie on tap? And what is that fucking helmet like?" - DB

Frankly, I thought that a bit rich considering Major Tom's own headgear in that original Space Oddity video.

At least the Chicago Tap Theatre have safety in mind...I'm sure Major Tom's helmet (see above) would afford little protection in a meteor storm. The CTT's helmet is a far sturdier affair, even if not quite as stylish as MT's.

Anyway, if anybody reading this manages to get along to see Changes, we'd love to read a report and might even publish it here.

For more details regarding this feast of sound and vision, click on any of the above helmets.

Glastonbury Dvd Release And Bbc2 Broadcast

Switch on the TV we may pick him up on Channel Two...

Julien Temple's Glastonbury film that we told you about back at the beginning of the year, (01.26.2006 NEWS: DB IN JULIEN TEMPLE'S GLASTONBURY FILM) is to be released as a Region 2 double DVD set through 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on July 17th.

It's unlikely that the extra disc will contain any more from David Bowie's headline performance on June 25th, 2000, but "Heroes" remains intact on disc one.

If, however, you'd rather get a flavour of the thing before you splash your hard-earned, BBC2 in the UK are scheduled to show the whole 135 minute film two days before the DVD release (sounds like a good business plan) at 10:30pm on Saturday July 15th.

Monthly Music Magazines Bowie Bits Round-up

Every magazine on every shelf...

A few nice Bowie bits in the August editions of the UK music mags out now. Obviously we already told you about Q in yesterday's news. And so, on with the rest of them...

No, that's not BowieNetter DTS above, it's the legend that is Scott Walker, with part of a quote he gave to MOJO shortly after receiving The MOJO Icon Award recently. Here's the relevant bits from the brief interview published in this month's issue...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who would you most like to give a MOJO award to?

Dead or alive? Alive it's difficult...Just for changing things so radically, and hanging in there, you'd probably have to give it to David B. And he makes it pay, which I don't!

You had the chance to work with him...

I don't remember that. We had a couple of conversations... But he's always very kind to me, always tells people, "You gotta hear this guy." And every time I do a record, he always sends me a great message.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Bowie is an executive producer of the documentary Scott Walker: 30 Century Man which is due later this year.

Elsewhere in the mag there is the shot of Brian Rasic's that we first used exclusively in the BowieNet news last month. (05.31.06 NEWS: MORE EXCLUSIVE BOWIE PIX FROM RAH AND REVIEWS) The same shot was also reprinted in aforementioned Q magazine, and in UNCUT magazine...of which more in a second. Not sure about The Word, as I haven't seen that particular publication just yet.

The wonderful shot above is from a great 4-page picture special in UNCUT magazine of David Bowie greeting fans on his return to the UK, at Charing Cross station on May 4th 1973.

David was accompanied on the crossing from Paris (after an 8,000 mile overland journey from Japan, via Russia on the Trans-Siberian Express and the Orient Express through East Germany, Poland and France!) by Melody Maker writer Roy Hollingworth and the paper's snapper, Barrie Wentzell.

They had both managed to join with the Bowie entourage to get an exclusive interview before David's Aladdin Sane tour of the UK.

It's a great read, packed with lots of pictures like the one above, and is really worth the price of the magazine for this feature alone.

On a final note, the girl at the window in the picture above looks suspiciously like Über fan Claire Mansfield (aka Mistress Chloe) who started one of the very first fan run Bowie fan clubs, Subterraneans.

Claire went on to write the superb Dominatrix, a memoir of her life growing up as a Bowie fan and punk rocker, (with lots of great Bowie references) up to her present day occupation as a dominatrix and lots of other stuff in-between.

Get in touch if it is you, Claire. Indeed, get in touch if it isn't...but don't spank me if I'm wrong...not into all that kinky stuff, it's far too scary!

Futureheads, Raconteurs, Bauhaus And G'n'r Do Db

Let's dance, To the song they're playing on the radio... (possibly)

I'm sure the majority of you are already aware of this latest batch of Bowie covers, but it's good to catalogue these things anyway.

First up, The Futureheads have recorded an exclusive version of Let's Dance for a cover-mounted CD with the latest edition of Q magazine which is billed as The 80s Issue. DB's own version of the song makes it to #21 in the mag's selection of the 40 best 80s tracks.

Elsewhere in the mag, the Aladdin Sane version of Let's Spend The Night Together is listed as one of the essential 50 download tracks this month. We've mentioned the album Paint It Black (from which the track is taken) on these pages a couple of times. (06.11.2006 NEWS: BOWIE TRACK ON STONES COVERS COMPILATION & 06.29.2006 NEWS: PAINT IT BLACK WEBSITE AND STONES TICKETS CONTEST)

Here's what Q had to say about the track: "The highlight of mostly rubbish Stones cover compilation Paint It Black. A sprint through their masterclass in sexual threat that first surfaced on 1973's Aladdin Sane."

Next up, you may already know that The Raconteurs have covered Ziggy Stardust's only cover version: It Ain't Easy. Of course it could be argued that they haven't covered Bowie if it's not a Bowie original. But, anybody who has heard the band perform the song live would have to agree that it definitely owes much more to the Ziggy arrangement (although strictly speaking it's a Hunky Dory arrangement as that was the album it was originally intended for) than the Ron Davies original from his 1970 album...or indeed any of the numerous versions since.

Anyway, the band have now decided to include a live version of the track on one of the 7" issues of their forthcoming Hands single...so you'll be able to make up your own mind when it's released at the end of the month.

The re-reformed Bauhaus have been playing their biggest hit on their current American tour with NIN. That song being Ziggy Stardust which reached #15 in the UK singles chart in 1982. This live version is also available for your listening pleasure on any number of live CDs from the current Bauhaus tour via INSTANT LIVE.

Finally, the reformed Guns N' Roses (who are as much Guns N' Roses as Velvet Revolver are) have also tackled Ziggy Stardust at recent live shows, which is very nice of Axl to give his former guitarist's ex-occasional babysitter a nod...but who really cares?

Young Americans Still On, Plus More From Emi Japan

When I needed soul revival...

Hopefully the above banner hasn't excited you unduly...the 5.1 re-issue of Young Americans isn't actually in stock just yet. I'm afraid the advertisement above is simply a 31-year-old record store poster that I blagged at the time.

However, I have been assured by EMI that this release, which we've now been talking about for the past sixty three years, (02.21.05 NEWS: YOUNG AMERICANS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CD DUE & 03.01.05 NEWS: TV TALKS ABOUT 30TH ANNIVERSARY YA 5.1 MIX & 11.16.2005 NEWS: YOUNG AMERICANS COLLECTORS EDITION DUE IN MARCH) will definitely still happen.

I couldn't crowbar a date out of my much-hassled (by me) man at EMI, but I thought you'd be pleased to learn that the 5.1 re-issue of Young Americans is still actually on the release schedule.

Over at EMI Japan, plans are afoot to re-issue all of DB's albums from Space Oddity through to Tin Machine in those very groovy replica mini-sleeves.

The Japanese are very good at this kind of thing, with an almost fanatical attention to detail. The Roxy Music mini-sleeves being a great example, and indeed DB's own Deram Anthology and Tin Machine ll CDs are certainly very well done, though I'm not 100 per cent sure of their legitimacy.

Though my Japanese is limited, as far as I understand it, EMI Japan intend to start this series of re-issues around the time of David's 60th birthday next January.

Bowienet Give-away - June Winners - July Game On

Grown inside a plastic box...

I think everybody has the hang of this one by now, but if you're not familiar with the monthly BowieNet give-away take a look at the first day of the last couple of month's news.

Above is an addition to the vault this month, an original set of three laminates from the historic live webcast recording of David Bowie and Alex Grant's winning entry in the 1999 BowieNet cyber-song contest. The set includes VIP, CREW and PRESS passes and would only otherwise been available if you were at the event, and even then you would have only qualified for just one of these highly-collectable laminates.

There is also printing on the back of each one, but we won't reproduce it here in case some bright spark decides to knock out a few fakes on eBay.

Anyway, here are the lucky five BowieNetters who won the June draw, three of whom could claim a set of these passes right now:

1st prize = 500 points to welwnrose

Here are the items in the vault at the moment, items in red have now all gone, and items in green are newly-added. Newly-added items stay green for three months, unless they are all gone before that time.

Rebel Rebel Is Tops At Rebel Rebel

Hey babe, let's go out tonight...

If for some strange reason you find yourself in London this evening reading this instead of being out and about and enjoying life, perhaps you may want to go and drown your sorrows over England's exit from the football world cup, or indeed, celebrate Portugal's win at Rebel Rebel's first birthday party.

Plugged in this week's NME, the club currently has a David Bowie tune at the very top of its playlist...Rebel Rebel itself, strangely enough.

Anyway, it's the place to be and they play top tunes until 3:00am. You better sling on your satin 'n tat quickly though, as it's a very popular evening which kicks off at 10:00pm.

Click on the Rebel Rebel logo above to read more about the club.

Mick Rock's New Radio Show On Xfm Tomorrow

I am a DJ...

Mick Rock has been signed up by Xfm radio in the UK for a twelve-week stint (initially) spinning his very favourite platters for your listening enjoyment.

I don't want to give too much away, suffice to say that the world's favourite rock photographer intends to kick off with a Bowie tune for his first live broadcast from New York tomorrow...poor sod is going to have to get up pretty early for this!

Here's the official press release...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MICK ROCKS Xfm

Xfm, the UK's best radio station has hired the world's coolest photographer to host a series of exclusive shows from one of the hippest cities on the planet.

Mick Rock, the man behind some of the most iconic rock and roll photographs of all time, will present a Saturday afternoon show live from New York that will be broadcast across the Xfm Network. Starting on July 1st, Mick's show will be the first on Xfm to be available as an enhanced podcast allowing listeners to download exclusive Mick Rock images to their MP3 players.

Best known for his work in the early 70s with an up-and-coming young musician called David Bowie, Mick has spent the last 30 years hanging out with, and photographing, rock and roll royalty. More recently he's worked with contemporary stars including Kate Moss, Michael Stipe, Johnny Marr, The Killers and Scissor Sisters to name but a few. The events he's witnessed, the people he's met and the showbiz stories he's acquired over the years will make his show a must for music fans everywhere.

Mick will also spend a week at Xfm's stations in London and Manchester taking behind the scenes photographs of DJs and live sessions including an exclusive Primal Scream gig for listeners at The Garage in London on Monday 14th June. Mick will also shadow Xfm backstage at the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, which has bands such as The Strokes, The Raconteurs and Belle and Sebastian on the bill.

Mick Rock Said:
"I've done some club DJ'ing over the years and occasionally selected tracks for my promo radio interviews, and of course I'm always the DJ on my photo sessions, but this is the first time my fave tracks and my mouth have been coordinated for national broadcast on my very own show!! I'm buzzed as a budgie about it all. Especially to be doing it in tandem with my new friends, the highly innovative XFM team. It'll be the latest releases from the new acts I'm shooting blended with classic tracks from old friends of mine, hot and heavy from my New York hideaway.....Hold on to your knickers, everyone, here comes the Rock Machine, lips and grooves syncopated for your edification....."

Xfm's Network MD Nick Davidson said:
"What Mick doesn't know about the rock scene you could write on the back of a postage stamp. With Xfm's unrivalled play list and an address book that reads like the Live Aid and Live 8 line-ups rolled into one, Mick's show is going to make compulsive listening. This will be the perfect show to launch Xfm's enhanced podcast allowing fans to view Mick's iconic images whilst he regales them with his rock and roll tales."

The images from Mick's week at Xfm will go on display in 2007 to celebrate Xfm's 10th anniversary.

Mick Rock Live From New York
Saturdays 1-3pm from 1st July 2006
Only on the Xfm Network
London 104.9FM - Manchester 97.7FM - Scotland 105.7-106.1FM -
Across the UK on DAB

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vote For New Bowie-designed Charity Items Now

You want more and you want it fast...

You'd have to be absurdly unobservant to have not noticed our news pieces regarding the David Bowie Peace Thru Art wristbands that we've told you about over the past year. (06.18.2005 NEWS: DB EXPLAINS INSPIRATION FOR CHARITY ARTWORK & 11.01.2005 NEWS: BOWIE WRISTBANDS AND E-CARD AVAILABLE NOW & 11.18.05 NEWS: BOWIE CHARITY WRISTBANDS HUGE SUCCESS & 01.05.06 NEWS: NEW BATCH OF BOWIE WRISTBANDS NOW AVAILABLE & 03.01.2006 NEWS: NEW STYLE BOWIE WRISTBANDS AVAILABLE NOW) But, judging by the huge success of the wristbands it seems you've all been paying close attention.

You may remember that there were other products promised from whateverittakes.org utilising David's designs, but unless anybody out there knows differently, I don't think any of those other items ever materialised.

Well, now you have the power to make them a reality. Understandably, the charity only plans to produce items where the demand is great enough, they can't be expected to sit on expensively produced stock, so this voting system makes perfect sense.

Below are some examples of the products whateverittakes.org can make using the above artworks, with an approximate price guide and the amount of votes needed for each item, with the current tally in brackets. (Sorry the prices are only in GBP, convert to your preferred currency here.)

Design 1 (above left)
Limited Edition Plate
Guide Price £95 - £125 - Votes Needed 500 (56)
Limited Edition Mug
Guide Price £5 - £7.50 - Votes Needed 500 (98)
Trainers / Sneakers
Guide Price £25 - £50 - Votes Needed 1000 (68)

Design 2 (above right)
Limited Edition Plate
Guide Price £95 - £125 - Votes Needed 500 (37)
Limited Edition Mug
Guide Price £5 - £7.50 - Votes Needed 500 (50)
Trainers / Sneakers
Guide Price £25 - £50 - Votes Needed 1000 (45)

Bizarrely, you can also vote for a T-shirt of each design, even though there is no price estimate or amount of votes needed! However, the voting currently stands at 185 for Design 1 and 73 for Design 2...I guess if you want a T-shirt you should just join in the voting anyway. You can also vote for wristbands, but seeing as they're already available that option also seems strange.

If you truly want these items you best get voting now, as you can see there's a long way to go...particularly for the trainers.

You must be a registered member to vote and you must be logged in. (It's a very simple process) You should also note that after you have voted for each item, it seems you have to hit your browser's back button to vote for another one.

Bowie Look-a-likes Star In Futuristic Bbc Comedy

Bolwell and Spratt (sounds like a firm of dodgy solicitors)
as Ziggy Stardust, and, erm...Ziggy Stardust in Time Trumpet.

Looked a lot like you and me...

Bowie tribute artist, Laurence Bolwell, (above left) and Bowie impersonator, Steven Spratt (right) have been hired by the BBC for an episode of a new six-part comedy due to start airing next month, called Time Trumpet.

Written and directed by satirist Armando Iannucci, (whose previous work includes the brilliant The Day Today, Alan Partridge and The Thick Of It, among many other things) Time Trumpet will "look back" on events of the next 50 years from the perspective of a nostalgia show from the year 2050.

I'm been asked not to give anything away about the episode in which Laurence and Steven both get to play David Bowie's alter-ego Ziggy Stardust, but I don't think I'm revealing too much when I say you probably won't view Stars In Their Eyes in quite the same way again!

It does all sound a bit of a hoot and we'll give you the definite air date of this particular episode as soon as it's confirmed.

French Discuss Db Album Covers Next Week

It's Monday...

Well, it may be one of the more intriguing headlines I've had to write. But, for those of you kicking your heels in the Auvergne region of France next week, you may want to pop along to a discussion, hosted by the very talented Adeline Lecatre, about the changing face of David Bowie with particular emphasis on the various visages presented on his album sleeves...or something like that.

I'll hand over to the very French BowieNetter, Jerome Soligny, who knows a bit more about Adeline than I do... Jerome Soligny,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi fellow Bowienetters,

Adeline L is a very sweet and shy friend. We met in 2002, in Nîmes, where David Bowie was playing on that famous summer night. She was wearing a Brian Eno t-shirt, circa 1973. She seemed to know everything about glam rock, and, to some extent, more about it than I do. She still does. We don't see each other much as she lives in deep France and I'm a harbour boy.

But still, every time David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Morrissey or Lipstick Traces play somewhere, we're both around. I don't exactly know what she does with her life and when she talks, she quotes much smarter things than I do. Well, I'm just a harbour boy after all.

I know she's some student in history of art and that she's just finished a thesis about Cocteau. Not the Twins. Meaning, she's an art girl whose heroes I'm (and you must be) kind of familiar with. As far as I understand, she's organising this nice conf/debate around David Bowie's record covers, with Bowie fans and, possibly, a few arty people. So, if don't live far from her (and even if you do actually), I'm sure you'll have a great time there. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it. Guess I'm too much of a harbour boy.

Peace to you all from the grey waves, Jerome.

PS : To complete Blammo's piece about the France boat, (06.12.2006 SNIPPET: ZIGGY'S LAST STAND ABOARD THE SS FRANCE) I wanted to say that one of my treasured possessions is an autograph David Bowie signed while on that very cruise, for the father (maybe uncle) of a good friend of mine, then working on the ship. David was asked to sign it for "some kid who loved his music". Hey, you wanna know ? The harbour boy still does.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it's any indication as to what the evening may be like, I've seen some of Adeline's paintings of David Bowie, and indeed Brian Eno, and they're quite lovely...Not that that necessarily makes her a good speaker of course, but she clearly has very good taste.

The evening kicks off at 20:30hrs on Monday June 26 at: Centre Jean Richepin, rue Jean Richepin, Clermont-Ferrand...and it's free to get in.

Let us know how it went if you do manage to get along.
