Five Loser's Lounge Bowie Tribute Dates Start Friday

And a loser I will be...

BowieNet old-timers will be well aware of the musician's collective that is The Loser's Lounge. The outfit is responsible for at least two hugely successful New York Bowie tribute shows in recent years, that we reported here at the time. Here's the blurb from the official site:

THIS IS THE LAST LOSERS LOUNGE OF 2004!!!

The Losers Lounge presents:

The return of The Loser That Fell To Earth - The Loser's Lounge tribute to David Bowie!!!

It's been many years and many many requests for an encore since The Losers Lounge first packed the house with their unique take on the songs and styles of David Bowie. Due to overwhelming demand, we've decided to end the 2004 season with a big bang by bringing back Ziggy Stardust, The Spiders, The Thin White Duke, The Young Americans, David Jones, Major Tom and all the young dudes that make Bowie's catalogue, closet and career so amazing.

We look forward to seeing you at The Losers Lounge this October 1, 2, 8 and 9th at Fez under Time Cafe!

A big Bowie fan that knows his stuff when it comes to the music of David Bowie had this to say about The Loser's Lounge Bowie tribute:

This is an institution on the Downtown NY scene. Every few months they put on a huge show featuring a classic artist. The last Bowie one was pretty good. The band is kick-ass and a different singer sings one song each, usually about 25 songs in total. Some of the singers are really great, in local bands with record deals.

The occasional secretary-by-day, or pub owner gets on the stage and makes a dog's meal of the song, but that's all part of the fun. I don't know who's in this one, but you can see that they have to run four shows to accommodate all the ticket buyers. Highly recommend.

I forgot to say, the 'big Bowie fan' who sent in the above recommendation is a producer chap called Tony Visconti... Seems to know his onions.

Click on David's helmet (stop sniggering at the back) in the lovely illustration above to get to The Loser's Lounge home page. There you can find more details, such as location, show times and ticket sales, etc.

If you're in NY on the above dates, you really should make the effort to get along... only wish I could be there too. :-(

"Why 110?"...I hear you collectively ask. Well, thanx to a too-dull-to-explain technical hitch, it seems that 110 orders were successfully placed and given order numbers. David kindly, and obviously, agreed to sign the extra ten.

If you think you ordered successfully, but your name isn't on the list, contact me with the order number you received and I'll look into it.

Finally, yes I have ordered a calendar too. I am still a fan you know, and you just can't rely on freebies always turning up!

2005 Official Signed Db Calendar Sale Update

While tens of thousands found me in demand...

*

Saturday's sale of 100 copies of the official 2005 David Bowie calendar looks to have been even more popular than we expected. The company dealing with the sale say that the demand was unprecedented and it was clear their servers weren't up to the huge BowieNet bombardment.

But, even with the servers grinding to a halt, the 100 signed calendars still sold out within a few minutes.

However, it seems to have all turned out right in the end and I have been assured of the following for those that ordered a signed calendar:

If you received a receipt/order number you will get a calendar.

However many you think you may have ordered, you will only receive one signed calendar and you will only be charged for one signed calendar.

Money will not be taken from your account until your calendar has been despatched.

I will post a list of successful purchasers over the next couple of days, once we have checked the validity of the BowieNet usernames supplied.

BowieNetters can still order the unsigned calendar at a greatly reduced rate until October 16th. Log in and click on the calendar above if you wish to do just that.

Important - How To Order The Calendar

But don't forget your date with me...

As you know from my previous story, (09.20.04 NEWS: BIG BOWIENET DISCOUNT FOR 2005 OFFICIAL CALENDAR) both versions (signed and unsigned) of the 2005 Official David Bowie Calendar go on sale at 8:00pm UK time this evening.

At that time you need to return to this page and click on the image above (link now live) to get to the order page. Although the calendar is only available to BowieNetters right now, the sale is actually being handled by an outside company. So, I thought I should post a couple of helpful hints here to hopefully help your transaction go more smoothly.

It is important that you read and understand this information if you want be in with a chance of being among the first 100 orders.

The signed calendar is signed by both Mick Rock and David Bowie and will be strictly limited to just 100 copies for BowieNet members only. To this end, you will need to supply your BowieNet username to purchase a copy and you may only order one copy per member account.

Here's how it works. At 8:00pm UK time this evening, click on the image above to get to the order page. Which looks something like the grab below, only much bigger:

Click on the first 'ORDER' button if you are after a signed calendar. This will take you to the "CalendarMart Shopping Cart" page... see below:

At this point you can also add an unsigned calendar to your order, (as many as you like in fact) by hitting the 'CONTINUE SHOPPING' button, which will take you back to the previous page. It's up to you if you want to do this, but bear in mind that any delay may lose you a place in the first 100 orders.

If you don't wish to take that risk, then enter your BOWIENET USERNAME in the 'Ordering Instructions' box. If you don't enter a valid BowieNet Username your order will not be processed.

Then be sure to select your payment method (Visa or MasterCard only) and if your billing and shipping addresses are the same be sure to uncheck the "Use separate shipping address" box. If you don't do this you will waste valuable time filling in your address twice.

Be sure to hit the 'FINALIZE THIS ORDER' button instead of the 'CONTINUE SHOPPING' button to commence with your order.

(Please note the conditions clause, but don't be panicked by it: "Conditions: The customer agrees that this transaction takes place in the United Kingdom under United Kingdom law." I think this means you are simply ordering from a UK company, even though all prices are in USD.)

After you hit the 'FINALIZE THIS ORDER' button you will be taken to the page where you enter your personal details: Name, address, e-mail contact and credit card details. At the top of the page is a "Comments / More Information" box where you should enter your BowieNet username again, thus:

Obviously your username isn't TotalBlamBlam, but you get the idea!

If you are hopelessly slow at typing you may want to type out your personal details in advance and just copy and paste them. This way you can also double check you have the correct info (particularly card number) before you send it.

Once you are certain your details are correct, hit the Proceed button to complete your order. You will be given an order number and you will receive a confirmation order via e-mail.

Post any concerns you may have regarding this sale on the MBs before 8:00pm and I will do my best to address them. Good luck.

2005 Official Signed Calendar Contest - Winners

Tell the truth...

If you entered this one, you'll understand what this is all about... if you didn't, I'm sorry to say you're too late now anyway. Very popular contest this...with about seventy five per cent of you sending in the following correct answers:

Day 1 = False
Day 2 = True
Day 3 = False
Day 4 = True

Here's the breakdown for those of you wondering where you went wrong:

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 1
Mick Rock's real name is Michael Barratt

False - Mick Rock is his real name... Michael Barratt is in fact the real name of Mick's favourite recording artist: Shaking Stevens! (Well done to BowieNetter Carmel for being the only person to point this fact out... send me your details for a small reward, Carmel)

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 2
Mick Rock took his very first pictures of David Bowie at Birmingham Town Hall on Friday, 17th March, 1972.

True - This one foxed a few of you that were misled by other sites getting the date wrong. Had you been keeping a close eye on BowieNet you would have known that Friday, 17th March, 1972, is indeed the correct date, as outlined in these two BowieNet news stories: 03.17.2002 NEWS: WHEN ROCK MET ZIGGY & 03.23.2002 NEWS: BIRMINGHAM...WE WUZ RIGHT! I don't like to gloat, (shouts of "LIAR!!") but we were the first with this correct information. A couple of other sites had the good sense to update their Ziggy tour info with our evidence.

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 3
Mick Rock was an uncredited guest 'musician' on the Aladdin Sane album when he played the maracas on Panic In Detroit

False - Many of you said you had a hard job trying to find anything online regarding this statement... and that's because it's complete bollocks! Nice idea though, eh?

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 4
Of the David Bowie videos generally available, Mick Rock was responsible for these four: Space Oddity (1972), John, I'm Only Dancing (1972), The Jean Genie (1972) and Life On Mars? (1973).

True - I said "generally available" as there are other bits Mick created that have never had an official release. However, even if you were thrown by that, the statement was undeniably true as Mick was unquestionably responsible for the four classics mentioned above.

OK here's five of you in alphabetical order that TRG? recognised as not having gone wrong:

eleanor57
johnwiseman
keiths
ritabowie
zig

If you lot would like to send your postal details to me with your signature requests for Mr Bowie and Mr Rock, (ie, who you want the thing signed to) and I will endeavour to meet your reasonable requests. Well done to the winners... commiserations to the losers. Many more quality competitions coming up shortly, kidz.

2005 Official Signed Calendar Contest - Day 4

It's absolutely true... (Isn't it? That's for you to decide...)

Here's the final statement folx...read on to find out what to do with your answers:

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 4
Mick Rock was responsible for these four David Bowie videos: Space Oddity (1972), John, I'm Only Dancing (1972), The Jean Genie (1972) and Life On Mars? (1973).

That's the fourth and final statement for this contest. All you have to do is decide which of the statements I've posted over the past four days is true and which is false. When you think you have your answers, send them in to me in this format:

Day 1 = False
Day 2 = False
Day 3 = True
Day 4 = True

That's obviously just an example, which isn't necessarily correct... or is it? There are no tricks, each statement is either true or false.

Send your answer to me at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of "True or False". Usual rules apply: You must send from your BowieNet account or at least provide your BowieNet username. Only one entry per account name.

The competition is open until noon (UK time) tomorrow (Saturday) and the five names with the correct answers that The Random Generator (TRG?) selects will be announced an hour later. Good luck all... and don't forget even if you're not sure of the answers, you still have a fifty per cent chance of guessing them correctly.

Mick Rock was an uncredited guest 'musician' on the Aladdin Sane album, when he played the maracas on Panic In Detroit.

Bowienetters Organise Eight Hour Bowie Bash

You asked for the latest party...

Regular users of the BNet MBs will already be aware of this event, organised by a handful of enterprising BowieNetters: iforgot, LizSK2, tvqueenbitch and fredhthegnome.

At 4:00pm on Saturday, November 13th, eight hours of big Bowie fun are promised for 100 BowieNetters at The Theodore Bullfrog in London.

Live Music will be performed by Bowie tribute act and Stars In Their Eyes veteran, Rob Storm, who I've never seen perform before, but I'm looking forward to his interpretation of David Bowie's songs.

Also the young and very talented James Ewers has promised an exciting set with his band, a set which will draw heavily on the songs of Tin Machine... I have heard him before and he does a bloody good job. Hopefully he'll be able to persuade his Uncle Keith for another of his unique performances of Rebel Rebel... not for the fainthearted.

LizSK2, tvqueenbitch and fredhthegnome will each be taking a turn behind the wheels-of-steel and I have a sneaky feeling they will all be playing a fair few Bowie tunes.

You can reach the website that iforgot has created for this event by clicking on the image above. Everything you need to know is there and you can order tickets here... but be quick, I'm sure 100 tickets will be snapped up faster than you can say: "Put a sock in it Keiths!"

As ever, I am duty-bound to point out that this is not an official BowieNet event.

2005 Official Signed Calendar Contest - Day 1

Everybody knows it's true... (Or is it?)

OK folks - It's the first day of a four-day true or false competition for five signed copies of the 2005 Official David Bowie Calendar we told you about yesterday. We were going to run this on Saturday, but as BowieNetter Withnail kindly pointed out, you probably want to know if you're a winner or not before the calendars go on sale.

So, this is as easy as it sounds. I'll be posting four statements over the next four days and you must decide whether each of them is true or false. When you have all four answers you'll send them in to me by noon (UK time) on Saturday so that TRG? can select five winners of this most deirable item (signed by both David Bowie and Mick Rock), before it goes on sale on Saturday evening. Here's part one:

2005 OFFICIAL SIGNED CALENDAR CONTEST - DAY 1
Mick Rock's real name is Michael Barratt

As I say, you need do nothing just yet. Just mull over that statement and decide on it's validity while you wait for the next three.

Big Bowienet Discount For 2005 Official Calendar

But don't forget your date with me...

As I confirmed on the MBs yesterday, there is going to be an official 2005 David Bowie calendar featuring twelve of Mick Rock's beautiful shots covering the two ends of a thirty-year spectrum...that's the very stylish cover above.

We are very pleased to be able to offer the calendar exclusively for a three-week pre-sale through BowieNet, before it will be made available generally. It will also be cheaper via BowieNet, at a cost of $12 plus $3 p&p which includes shipping to anywhere in the world...as opposed to an $18 price tag when it goes on general sale... I make that a thirty three per cent discount, generous by anyone's standards.

As if this wasn't enough, a signed edition will also be made available (exclusively to BowieNet) for the astonishingly low price of $45. This edition will be signed by both Mick Rock and David Bowie and will be strictly limited to just 100 copies for members only.

Both versions will go on sale at 8:00pm UK time on Saturday evening...a time when most members are not at work or at least most are awake. This is the fairest time for the signed calendars to go on sale as they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Above is a montage of the shots being utilised, a couple of which I believe are unpublished. This is just to give you a vague idea of the content, even though the montage really doesn't do the calendar justice at all. Please bear in mind that I've used cropped versions of most of the pictures which appear full-length in the calendar proper.

Oh, I almost forgot. There will be a BowieNet members competition for five copies of the signed version that I'll be running from tomorrow... It's all good stuff, kidz.

Ultra-rare Signed Tour Print Winners

As his past puts him back in Brussels...

This one threw half of you, but the other half who sent in the correct answer numbered many more than the five prizes available anyway... does that make any sense?

The information you needed (to be in with any chance at all) could be found in this news item: 10.07.2003 NEWS: EUROPEAN LEG OF REALITY TOUR KICKS OFF TONIGHT

From that piece, the five BowieNetters listed below (in alphabetical doo dah) gleaned the following relevant information about the picture in the print above: The shot was taken on Saturday, October 4th 2003 in Brussels, Belgium, during the final dress rehearsal for A Reality Tour.

Here are the five BNetters that said something along those lines and that TRG? very randomly generated:

cdcarter
gb4db
mandn
saxonny
zimmie

If you're one of the above, please send me your real name and address and you will receive your fully signed print shortly. Please signify if you don't want my scribble on the thing. I will understand if you don't, as my signature is likely to devalue your otherwise most valuable prize!

No Delay For Reality Tour Dvd

Waiting so long...

There have been some understandable worries on the MBs regarding the release date of the David Bowie - A Reality Tour DVD. As far as we are concerned, and as we told you a month ago, (08.22.04 NEWS: REALITY DVD RELEASE DATE AND PRESS RELEASE) the release date remains October 19th world-wide, though it seems Sony Music Australia have delayed the release by one week and this is most likely the source of the concern.

So I would say to those of you planning viewing parties outside of Australasia for the 23rd that you are safe to forge ahead with your plans. But, I do retain the right to remain irreproachable if Sony do move that date. Despite the proviso, I honestly have it on good authority that there is no intention to delay the release.

See Ky In Brooklyn Tonight And Celebrate With Sax

Because You're Young...

If you're in the Brooklyn area this evening, you could do worse than check out the Kristeen Young show at Galapagos...that's if you don't mind rubbing shoulders with a bunch of rowdy BowieNetters, not least of all Saxonny who will be present with friends for an early celebration of her 48th birthday tomorrow.

For the benefit of those of you not signed up to KY's news service, here's the content of her latest communication regarding this event:

Jeff and I will be playing a show at Galapagos (70 N. 6th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn) this Wednesday, September 15 at 10pm

It's going to be great fun because it's Saxonny's birthday party also!! People are travelling world-wide to attend. We can be international lovers! Saxonny, the special girl herself, is commuting from Columbus, OH.....lovely, Gwnavere, from Florida (I'm sure she's happy just to leave that state...oops! :)....our darling, Iana, from Chicago...and sweet angel boy, Andy, ultimately from Liverpool (see, that's international, innit?) I know there are more travelling...and we can't wait.

So......if these people can make it all the way from their various faraway places.....I know the rest of you islanders can make it from Manhattan.....the L is a luxurious, air conditioned, 5 minute ride. In Brooklyn the streets are paved with gold....and.....there are lots of buffalo (Don't tell the English.)

Also....if you are interested in purchasing "X"....(and why wouldn't you be?).......my website (www.kristeenyoung.com) now has PayPal....so, I am presently living the good life....I just wait tables for the fun of it.

So happy that Autumn is almost here... Kristeen Young

Thanx for that Kristeen. So, if you're in the area, get your arse along to Galapagos... what else are you going to do on a Wednesday evening? If you can't make it, why not buy KY's latest masterpiece, "X", as suggested above.
