The Today Show: Bowienetters Report

Yesterday was such an easy game for us to play...

Many of you have either already seen yesterday's Today show broadcast, or perhaps you were even there. There's been ton's of stuff already posted about this, including a report from the msnbc website, with streaming files of David's performance. And of course, there are the usual bunch of fantastic shots over at wireimage.com too.

But, I thought I'd hand our news piece over to two lucky women who each won a place in the VIP pen via BowieNet. Firstly, the excellent pictures on this page were taken via the lens of BowieNetter wwlh, while the words were supplied by the crazy-haired Saxonny... Take it away girl:

Surprise surprise; I walk out of the subway at Rockefeller Center at 6 am on the dot and hear New Killer Star coming from the Plaza. I'm thinking: oh, this must be a tape. Then it stops and I run to get my VIP pass and the band has just started rehearsing! They looked like they were hurtin; it was SO EARLY. Bowie had on faded black jeans, Chucks (converse sneakers) a black sweatshirt, sunglasses & a black baseball cap. So he looked like this psuedo British hit man from a Quentin Tarantino movie.

They played New Killer Star, Modern Love & Never Get Old two or three times each. For the rehearsal there were only a handful of us; King Tommy, me, Mandn, Patsdragon, absnthegreen and a few others. THAT in and of itself was great, it was still dark out and everyone was waking up, etc etc.

Then the show started and while Katie and Matt are doing an interview about a new disorder called Celebrity Worship (how...IRONIC...is that?) someone is coming around to the gathering crowd, passing out posters to people who don't have any. The posters were made by NBC interns or something like that because they were very generic. Funny thing: one of them said I LOVE BOWIE with a picture of him...and at the bottom it said "PLAY BILLIE JEAN FOR US!!!"

Anyway, the bowienetters spotted this and started laughing. We called the techs over to us and explained that although Billie Jean is a great song...its a Michael Jackson song, not a Bowie song. So they took the poster inside and cut off the bottom with the Billie Jean part.

So finally it was time for him to play. He comes out wearing pretty much exactly the same thing as Poughkeepsie, and was smiling and winking and just having a GREAT time. Its so inspiring to see an artist having that much fun.

Katie Couric was standing near me and I did hear her whisper "Oh God, he is a cutie!" Good times...

He played New Killer star twice (once for a commercial break into I think) and then played New Killer Star, Modern Love & Never Get Old (which I just adore) If you are watching the TODAY show...and somehow we have to get you a copy...my head is so blatant in ALL the crowd shots its ridiculous...I had no idea my hair was that RED! You can pick me out from the cameras that are three blocks away *grin*

After the songs he signed autographs for us, was very nice but quick. But that's appropriate; it's the TODAY show.

Thank you thank you SO MUCH for the VIP tix! Made my birthday SOMETHING ELSE!!!

Thanx very much for that Ladies... great stuff. If anybody can set up one of those poll things on the MBs with the numbers of the corresponding wireimage pix, I'll post large versions of the most popular five on the boards tomorrow.

Bowiephiles

I discovered a star...

Don't forget to tune in to Virgin Radio in the UK and online, tomorrow (Sunday) at 6.00PM UK time.

David will once again be the guest of Ben Jones for Superstars, the show in which movie, music and TV superstars play their favourite tracks.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think about personal history...

An interview David gave last year on public radio is now streaming at Fresh Air Online.

You'll remember that although this interview was broadcast, it wasn't streamed at the time. It seems that the station have revamped the interview with some of the new tracks from Reality and used it again.

If you missed this last year, Terry Gross asks some interesting questions, and David talks at length about his teenage years among lots of other topics.

Click on the image above, and then choose 'Read More Or Listen' to listen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the pages that have turned...

A new phone interview with David by The Dallas Morning News has been posted online at Fox11.com. Here are a couple of extracts:

Mr. Bowie sees strong continuity in his songs "over the last 30 or 40 years. ... I think the isolationism, for instance, reflected in 'Space Oddity' in 1969 is not that much different from 'The Loneliest Guy' on the new album," he says.

"As a writer, I seem to be left with the same big three or four questions in my basket of subject matter. I'll never answer them, of course, but I'll keep approaching them from a different point of view probably until the day that I die."

Click here for the whole thing.

The tragic youth was looking young and sexy...

The Daily Telegraph has posted a story which tells you how to win tickets for the Fashion Rocks event taking place at The Royal Albert Hall on October 15th, that we told you about back in July (07.22.2003 NEWS: BOWIE BY SATELLITE FOR PRINCE'S TRUST IN OCTOBER). Here are the details:

For your chance to win two tickets to the Fashion Rocks event at the Royal Albert Hall in London on October 15, and a Xelibri 6 mobile phone, send your name, address and daytime telephone number on a postcard to Telegraph/Xelibri Draw, Fashion Desk, The Daily Telegraph, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DT. The closing date for entries is September 26.For a copy of the terms and conditions, send an SAE to Xelibri Draw, Promotions Department, The Daily Telegraph, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DT.

Killing time in the '70s...

This week's NME, is well worth the cover price for the free CD 'Hanging with the Strokes'. Among other great tracks are the original versions of The Modern Lovers' Pablo Picasso, and The Velvet Underground's I'm Waitin' For The Man.

Look inside the magazine and you will see a pull out spread of large glossy photographs, one of which is a famous Mick Rock shot of David (albeit reversed).

The photographs are published as part of NME's readers poll to 'Build Your Own Supergroup'. This week, you can vote online for your favourite singer. They say:

'Ziggy played guitar', went the legend, but sod that, what better frontman could you want than a crimson-haired starman with freaky eyes, a voice like a throttled angel and a complete disregard of the age-old stage adage 'never work with children or Martian spiders'?

Bowie On Carson Daly Show Tonight

Oh we can't dance, we don't talk much, we just ball and play...

According to our on-the-spot reporter (Hallo iamadj) an exciting time was had by all at tonight's Carson Daly taping. Iamadj told me, via a Trans-Atlantic phone call, that David looked as cool as ever in a cream jacket, scarf and black jeans, with the tartan plaid spats footwear effect that he's been sporting recently. He was happy to sign autographs (DB, not iamadj) and he performed three numbers: New Killer Star, Never Get Old and Hang On To Yourself.

The topic of conversation between Bowie and Carson lurched from what David did during the NYC blackout, (A lock-in at home for Lexi's party with music supplied via a radio, and fear of a repeat of the looting and rioting that accompanied a similar blackout in the seventies, being replaced by a feeling of pride for the well-behaved post 9/11 New Yorkers) to his lack of any great appreciation for the late Johnny Cash (Apparently his knowledge of Cash's music stretched to an awareness of Ring Of Fire, and an appreciation of his black clothes and attitude.)

Obviously the excitement of such a performance can create different memories of the same event, and BowieNetter lruiz seems to remember that David was "dressed in all white, with a white Reality shirt and a white jacket with words on it, like from Poughkeepsie." (You can read lruiz's report on the MBs) Whatever the reality, I'm sure we'll have some proper photographic evidence soon.

In the meantime, the picture above is one I took at rehearsals in Paris on September 4th for the Trafic.Musique Bowie TV special that is to be broadcast tomorrow night on France 2. But, more about that tomorrow, along with a whole bunch of other pictures I took on the day and a brief report from the very lovely Jerome Soligny.

STOP PRESS - I've just received an e-mail from Tess via BowieNetter cygnus7000's account, that will hopefully clear up the clobber confusion:

"...from the bottom ...black boots ...tartan spats ...3 black buttons on each side, elastic under the boots ...black jeans ...blackest black ...low slung ...lower than slung before ...R on the back right pocket ...for Reality? ...exposed zip (like we're getting used to) ...brown leather belt with flapping bit (like we're getting used to)...breathe, Tess, breathe (they were really slung low) ...white tee shirt with Reality on the front ...tucked in said low slung jeans (did I mention how low they were riding on his hips?) ...stone (as we say in England) or beige jacket ...looked like a vest but it was one piece ...knitted cotton ...tight sleeves ...holes ...like moth holes (I thought he was rich?!!) ...with the following on the back "Reality Tour 2003 ...the road to reality" ...rust/maroon (slightly patterned with white) scarf tied rather rakishly around his neck (would he wear it any other way?) and held in place with a mother of pearl stick pin (of course) ...ok ...the top bit ...gorgeous blond hair ...beautiful face ...the nose and ears were just as we've come to love them ...the eyes ...dazzling."

Thanx for clearing that up Tess. Enjoy the rest of your evening with Caroline, Paul and Brandi. Crazy kidz!

Tomorrow's Today Show Winners Notified

Somewhere there's a morning sky...

The winners of the contest we set yesterday for a place at David Bowie's performance at NBC's Today 2003 Toyota Summer Concert series tomorrow, should have now received an e-mail and/or a phone call. Likewise for the winners of this evening's Carson Daly appearance.

As far as I can tell, even if you didn't win a place you can still get to see David's performance tomorrow, if you arrive early enough... ie, before 6:30am local time. I know some fans are turning up at 5:00am, and no doubt others will queue overnight, so please bear that in mind, as you don't need a ticket for the general admission area.

However, our winners have a place in the VIP pen with their names on a guest list, for which they'll need photo ID and their user name. If you aren't sure if you have won or not, PM me and I'll tell you.

Have fun, and let us know how it went. If you manage to get any good shots and are willing to share them via the news, then please do send them on to me.

Bowie Special On French Tv Tonight

Switch on the TV we may pick him up on France two...

As I mentioned in yesterday's Carson Daly piece, French TV station, France 2, are showing a two hour Bowie special produced by Trafic.Musique tonight at 23:05 local time. I would double-check that time though, just in case there has been a schedule change since I received that information.

David performed a great seven-song set, interspersed with some fascinating interviews and guest appearances, and I think by now it's common knowledge that David was joined by a very special guest onstage when he performed Fashion with Blur front man, Damon Albarn.

I was privileged to be at the taping in Paris back on September 4th, and I had the chance to have a quick chat with Damon, who told me it was great to finally be able to perform a song that he had spent so much of his youth practising in front of a mirror!

Rock & Folk staff writer, and all-round Bowie expert, the very French Jerome Soligny, understood a little more of what was going on than I did... especially seeing as how my typically ignorant Englishness means that my French stretches to "Ouvre le Chien", and, as you might imagine, I don't get to use that particular line too often. Over to you Jerome:

French host Guillaume Durand, a long-time fan, was really happy to welcome David Bowie on the set of his show. The performance of the seven songs was brilliant and most of the talking, despite a few translation problems, was very interesting. The idea was to have others artists on the set, maybe not all Bowie-connected, but all fully aware of DB's music. Among them were Damon Albarn, Air and Françoise Hardy.

The duet with Damon and DB is real slice of history. "Fashion", on that special night, sounded more modern than ever! The chat between David and Damon was also great and David insisted on the fact he considers "Think Tank" as one of the best albums of the year.

Françoise Hardy, very famous singer during the sixties/seventies and now living icon, was delighted to finally meet David. She'd been saying for the last fifteen years how much she loved him as songwriter, singer and performer and was now able to meet the man in the flesh! David also seemed very happy and even more when she said "Outside" was her favourite album. She had also worked with Damon and Blur in the past.

Air played "Another Day" from their next album, out early next year and also had an interesting chat with David. He's been aware of their work since the magnificent "Moon Safari" and confirmed he couldn't wait to hear the new album.

Other artists "on" the show were Moby (live from New York, telling nice things about last year's US tour), Dandy Warhols (rehearsing for the tour, they sent a video message from LA), Too, Many DJs and Mick Rock, live from London, who talked about his "Moonage Daydream" book with our man.

The chat did include some fantastic moments, (even though David couldn't always hear the questions properly) among them the bits about Salvador Dali and Elvis Presley.

Thanx for that Jerome. As Jerome says, apart from the interviews and guest appearances, David performed seven songs that included: New Killer Star, Never Get Old, She'll Drive The Big Car, Modern Love, Fashion (with Damon Albarn), Days and Fall Dog Bombs The Moon... all of which should be broadcast tonight.

I don't think I need to caption these pics, just remember that David wore white jeans for rehearsals... and the tasty bird with the blonde hair is the delicious Françoise Hardy.

BowieNetters can see more of my pictures on the MBs by going here, including another shot from rehearsals with David and Damon.

If you weren't at the taping back on the 4th, you're in for a special treat tonight, in fact you're still in for a treat even if you were there. Oh, wot jolly good fun!

Win Tickets For Thursday's Today Show Taping

Early, before the sun, they struggle off to the gates...

We told you about David's appearance on NBC's Today 2003 Toyota Summer Concert series a little while back, (09.05.2003 NEWS: FORTHCOMING 'REALITY' TV) and, as with the story below, if you can make it along to the taping in NYC very early on Thursday morning, then we may be able to help a few of you. We have a handful of tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis that the fastest of you can claim now.

Here's what you need to do:

Be absolutely certain you can definitely attend before entering. You will need to be at the venue, which is at NBC Studios, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Fifth to Sixth Aves., by around 6:30am EST. Then mail me with your user name, real name, and contact telephone numbers at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of: Gimme a Today Show ticket please Blammo.

For those of you not familiar with the taping of this show, here's a bit of useful info I found online:

The Today Show (30 Rockefeller Plaza, Fifth to Sixth Aves.) - The Today Show's studio is on the ground floor at the corner of 49th St. and Rockefeller Center. Inside, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer tell the country what's going on; outside a crowd of people waves signs and hopes to get on television. The show airs Monday--Friday 7am--9am. If you want a good spot, get there pre-dawn, try to stand toward the south-east corner (directly behind the anchor desk) and carry a sign that says something goofy enough to be noticed.

We'll be giving one ticket to each winner, and we'll notify you if you win one. But, If you don't supply the info we've asked for you will be disqualified. Good luck.

Reality Out Now... Plus Sony Reissues

You can buy God, It's Monday...

As if you didn't already know, David Bowie's brilliant 26th studio album, Reality, is available from today. As we mentioned in one of our news pieces about the album, (09/02/03 NEWS: CD FORMATS, KINKS COVER, HMV DOWNLOAD AND NKS COMP) it comes in two main formats, a straight CD and a limited edition 2CD digi-pack. See aforementioned story for bonus CD tracks.

The album is released tomorrow in the US, but at least they have a special screening of the Riverside Reality show tonight, to take their minds off the delay. We did post the tracklisting a couple of months ago, (07/08/03 NEWS: BOWIE'S NEW ALBUM IS NOW A REALITY) but here it is again for those of you that don't already know the running order by heart:

01 New Killer Star
02 Pablo Picasso
03 Never Get Old
04 The Loneliest Guy
05 Looking for Water
06 She'll Drive the Big Car
07 Days
08 Fall Dog Bombs The Moon
09 Try Some, Buy Some
10 Reality
11 Bring Me The Disco King

With all of the excitement surrounding today's news (New album, new-look BowieNet, tour dates and pre-sale) you could be forgiven for forgetting that today also sees the reissue of three of the more recent Bowie albums on Sony. (04/25/03 NEWS: SONY REISSUES: THE FACTS)

1.Outside, Earthling and 'hours...' are all back on the shelves at a special price, and 'hours...' has the fully-restored, and to my mind, far better Rex Ray original sleeve that never made it to the commercial release of 'hours...'.

We will be running a competition for some Reality related goodies shortly, not to mention a contest to win five sets of these reissues later in the week.

David Bowie: ?a Reality Tour? 2003/2004;

DAVID BOWIE?s worldwide ?A REALITY TOUR? will touch down in North America December 6 after he completes his already sold-out U.K. and European leg, which runs October 7 through November 28. The U.S. and Canadian dates will encompass 20-plus cities, it was announced by Clear Channel Entertainment. The tour is in connection with BOWIE?s new album REALITY, due September 16 (ISO/Columbia Records), which follows last year?s critically acclaimed, million-selling Heathen album. Macy Gray is the special guest on the North American leg.

Tickets for ?A REALITY TOUR? will go on sale this weekend in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York, with the other on-sale dates varying from market to market. Members of BowieNet, BOWIE?s pioneering online community, can buy tickets before the general public at www.davidbowie.com.

?A REALITY TOUR? marks BOWIE?s first full-fledged world tour since 1995?s highly successful ?Outside World? tour and will also visit Australia and the Far East. BOWIE and his band, who have rehearsed over 50 songs from every era of his career, will change set lists from night to night on the tour.

BOWIE will be backed by the same stellar musicians he worked with on the REALITY album and performed with him on the acclaimed Heathen mini-tour: Sterling Campbell (drums), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass/backing vocals), Mike Garson (keyboards), Gerry Leonard (guitar), Earl Slick (guitar) and Catherine Russell (backing keyboards/backing vocals).

In recent years, BOWIE has concentrated on more intimate, one-off special live events, which have led to some legendary shows such as 2000?s two sold-out shows at New York?s Roseland Ballroom, last year?s Carling Hammersmith Apollo show in London and his return to Berlin at the Max Schmelling Hall. Intermixed with these intimate events have been handpicked, sold-out festival dates including appearances at last year?s Area2 shows in the U.S. as well as the spectacular 1999 closing night performance at Glastonbury. This year?s tour promises a mixture of BOWIE?s extensive back catalogue of hits as well as songs from the REALITY album.

?A REALITY TOUR? is scheduled to play to over one million people in 17 countries over a seven-month period. ?Last year?s shows were such a tremendous high and the audiences so responsive,? says BOWIE. ?My band is playing at the top of its form right now and it would be foolish not to play a tour this year while we're in such good spirits about the live show aspects of our work.?

Membership to BowieNet is included with every ticket sold for this tour. Ticket holders will be able to type in a special code that will appear on each ticket and receive a free 3-month membership. BowieNet has been expanding the limits of artist/fan interaction and collaboration since 1998. Members have co-written a song with BOWIE, helped choose album art and packaging, participated in a variety of chats, webcasts and online events and even attended members-only concerts.

?A Reality Tour? is presented by Clear Channel Entertainment and produced by RZO Theatricals, Inc.

Don't forget to tune in to Virgin Radio in the UK this morning, to hear Dominic Mohan's brand new interview with db. The show airs at 12.00PM UK time (lunchtime), and you can listen online by clicking here and choosing the top 'Listen Now' icon on the list.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mountain magic heavy hung...

Check out the online edition of The New York Post for a great new interview with David. They say:

Over the last three years, he's written some of the best songs since he was a young man, re-establishing himself critically while touring relentlessly.

Here are one or two 'db' quotes.

I love mountains, he said. I'm a Capricorn. I was born to be gallivanting on a peak somewhere. I can't get high enough, he laughed, then asked, Does that sound too much like a '70s expression?

and

Post: Where do your strengths lie as a writer?

Bowie: When I get really selfish and write for my own pleasure, not for the audience, is when I arrive at something with muscle. I also get good when I get back to the themes that have gnawed at me since I was a teenager.

Post: Such as?

Bowie: Trying to find a spiritual connection, a sense of isolation and a vague kind of futurism.

Not the loneliest guy in the world / Not me...

The Miami Herald has a fascinating article based around a recent phone interview with David. Among other topics, he talks about the connections between his home in New York City, and Reality

If Low, ``Heroes'' and Lodger represented Berlin, Reality is Bowie's New York record. Lyrics touch on Battery Park, Ludlow, Grand and Riverside streets and the Hudson and the album resonates with a big-city drive. New York is home for this British rocker, it's where he says he now has spent more time living than in any other city.

''Downtown was always mythological,'' Bowie says. ``This is where the beatniks were and the Beat poets and the early songwriters and the Dylans and jazz started here as well. It's a musician writer's dream to go and live in the Village.''

Reality is ultimately the realization of that early fascination.

''It's a New York record in as much as it was the location geographically. It was written here. I'd be the last person to say it's an album about New York, it's an album written under the influence of New York. It stretches from that narrative to personal songs,'' Bowie says.

Reality Screening In Ny On Monday: The List!

Spent his time in the picture house...

Well, it may be unlucky for some, but the 13th is pretty lucky for practically everyone who requested a seat for the Reality screening in New York on Monday. But before I post them, here are the venue details and times you've been waiting for.

The NYC David Bowie Reality screening, that David Bowie will be answering live questions for, (obviously not at the cinema though) will be held in Cinema #4 at Regal Cinemas, Union Square, 850 Broadway in New York City. Sony Music representatives will be handling the BowieNet guest lists at the door. Doors open at 8:30pm. Start time is 9:00pm sharp.

Personally, after the experience of Riverside, I think it may be an idea to get there a bit before 8:30pm, processing a rabble like you lot takes a little longer than a normal audience! };-)

You have to be among the names below to get in, and you need to have ID with you, as proof of your identity may well be requested on the night.

Phew! Thank goodness that's done!

Despite posting the very specific rules in my original post (09/06/03 NEWS: WIN TICKETS FOR NY SCREENING OF REALITY PRESENTATION) and reminding users of the rules in the follow-up post, I still received a number of entries (17) from people who neither supplied their BowieNet username, or entered from their BowieNet account!

There is a slim chance that you may get in if you are in the list below, but you need to go back to the original rules and re-enter TONIGHT with your BowieNet user name etc.

Well done to all of you that will be there on the night and you can take it from those of us who were there at Riverside, you're in for a pretty special treat.

Please do remember, that if you don't notify us in advance, "You may jeopardise your chances in future contests if you just don't turn up on the day" and that includes your extra place if you requested two. Please let us know if for some reason you can't make it on the day, as your place could still go to somebody else.

New Db Interview In 'the Sun'

Never ever gonna get old...

The Sun newspaper has a new interview with David Bowie today. Dominic Mohan met David this week and chatted to him about the Live By Satellite show, the inspiration behind Never Get Old, drugs, living in New York and an encounter with The Queen and Prince Phillip when he was six!

Here are one or two extracts:

On one of my new songs, Never Get Old ? the song?s ironic ? there is the image of a petulant rock singer sitting in a half-darkened room saying, ?I?m not gonna get old.? I thought it was a funny image and I had to write it before someone else my age did.

Bowie is an enduring icon who has never played by the rules or sold out. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he?s managed to remain cool.

Always the innovator, he has just played a concert that was sent to cinemas around the globe via the Internet. He believes this could soon replace traditional rock tours.

He says: We came over primarily to do this Internet thing, beaming out these shows from London to cinemas around the world. I thought of it about 15 years ago.

Bowie is down-to-earth and modest. He is also welcoming and witty, retaining his London accent and his very British sense of humour.

You know what to do for the whole thing.

Bowie On The Jonathan Ross Show Tonight

Slicky and DB at the taping yesterday. Photograph by Total Blam Blam.

I discovered a star, I got a better way, Ready set go...

If you are able, don't forget to tune in to Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on BBC1 at 10:35pm in the UK this evening. A whole bunch of BowieNetters helped create a great atmosphere at the taping of the show last night... perhaps not so difficult when it transpires that the number of people in the audience who weren't there to see David Bowie numbered just six!

David and the band recorded three songs, including the first single from Reality, New Killer Star, and also Modern Love and Never Get Old. Only the first two will be shown this evening, with the latter being saved for a later broadcast, hopefully, as it was such a strong performance. Never Get Old seems to get better every time the band play it.

Another thing that I'm sure won't make the cut this evening is David's quick stab at Blur's Song 2, and I would imagine that some of the banter between comedian Jack Dee and Mr Ross will not be broadcast either, seeing as how it fits neatly into the category we refer to as "choice language" over here.

"GAP jeans... My arse!" Bowie's back, by Blammo.

I've posted a picture of the back of David's jacket above so you can see that DETHKILLERS of BUSHWICK logo, and not BUSHKILLERS of DETHWICK, as David suggested. Of course, it could just be a gratuitous shot of David's bum, you can make up your own mind on that. BowieNetters can click on David's right cheek for another Blammo shot from last night that I've posted on the MBs.

Two other things to watch out for are Mike Garson's hat and the T-shirts of Four Poofs and a Piano, see below. I would have posted a picture of Mike's headwear too, but I thought I'd leave it as a surprise for those of you that weren't at the taping.

Four Poofs sans Piano... a lovely bunch of boys, with a great taste in T-shirts. Pic by Total Blam Blam..

The other guests tonight are Julie Walters, ex So Solid Crew member Lisa Maffia, and the aforementioned Jack Dee, who you can watch live at the Hammersmith Apollo if you stay tuned to BBC1 after Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. After Jack Dee Live at The Apollo, you'll have ten minutes to go and make yourselves a cuppa before the screening of The Man Who Fell To Earth on BBC2 at 12:35.

Riverside Reports In Today's Uk Press

And I, I could be King...

Riverside reports are coming thick and fast now, with reports in much of this morning's press here in the UK. Here are a few excerpts from some of the pieces:

The Guardian - An encore featuring a breathtaking version of 1979's Fantastic Voyage restores equilibrium. Bowie exits looking pleased, with good reason. After all, most of his 1970s peers would be hard pushed to fill a sporty hatchback with fans eager to hear their new material, let alone 68 cinemas.

The Daily Star (Includes Brian Rasic pic, see above) - King Of The World - BOWIE MAKES HISTORY AS HE WOWS 50,000 FANS - ROCK god David Bowie is back! The British legend has launched his new album Reality with a groundbreaking concert beamed live to cinemas all over the world. (Click on image above to read rest of article on the MBs)

The Independent Review (Includes another Brian Rasic shot) - ...the magnitude of the audience is impressive. After this, Bowie's world tour almost seems like an unnecessary chore. (Blammo note: Shhhh. You'll give him ideas!)

Daily Mirror - (Includes yet another Brian Rasic pic) (Blammo note: Under the heading: Bowie won't do Bondage, this piece is mainly about how David explained his disinterest in all things post-Connery Bond, including turning down offers to record a Bond theme and an offer to play a Bond villain!)

The Sun - Anyone looking at rock legend David Bowie nowadays could be forgiven for thinking he's some kind of alien. Bowie, 56, resembles a Space Oddity - who just happens to dress like David Beckham's big brother. But in Reality - his latest album - The Thin White Duke proves that he's still in sparkling form...On the whole Bowie looks great, sounds great and is more relaxed and confident than ever.
