Vote Now For Reality Show Requests

A couple of songs from your old scrapbook...

Obviously everybody here is well aware of David Bowie's Reality presentation in London on September the 8th. Well, if you're not actually going to be at the show, or at one of the many cinemas showing the performance, there's still a way you can have a little influence on the proceedings.

David wants you to select your favourite songs from a list of seventeen, and the three most popular from that list will be performed during the request section of the show on the night.

All you have to do is click on the image above to take you to the voting page, where the procedure will be further explained... but please bear in mind, you are voting for songs you want to hear performed live, not necessarily your favourite songs... if that makes any kind of sense?

Final September 8th Give-away

Can't we give ourselves one more chance...

This is the give-away for the final batch of fifty places for what is pretty much a BowieNet show (seeing as the great majority of those attending will be BowieNetters) on September 8th at the Riverside Studio in Hammersmith.

I'm sure you all know how this works, if not, go check out the rules I posted on Thursday. (08/21/03 NEWS: SEPTEMBER 8TH GIVE-AWAY STARTS NOW)

STILL getting e-mails from people who clearly haven't read the rules properly. If you send an e-mail from a non-BowieNet account, and you don't supply your user name either, you will not be attending on September the 8th ...so please double check before you hit return!

So, for your final chance, (presuming you haven't already won a place) e-mail me now at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of "September 8th - Give-Away Five". Your e-mail will work whether you include the quotes, or you don't.

This fifth and final give-away ends on Monday morning (September 1st) at 10:00am UK time. Good luck, and pop back at midday on Monday for the last fifty winners.

Just like the films...

In stores today is the latest issue of Q magazine and it's jam-packed with Bowie stuff. Apart from a fantastic piece featuring an interview and photo session of David and Kate Moss, (based on Michelangelo Antonioni's classic 1966 film, Blow-Up) there is a great review of Reality, and an ad for the album and tour on the back cover.

We'll bring you more, and some of the pictures from the shoot in our next magazine round-up shortly.

September 8th Give-away Part Four

Just when I won't take another chance...

This is the give-away for the fourth batch of fifty places for what is pretty much a BowieNet show (seeing as the great majority of those attending will be BowieNetters) on September 8th at the Riverside Studio in Hammersmith.

I'm sure you all know how this works, if not, go check out the rules I posted on Thursday. (08/21/03 NEWS: SEPTEMBER 8TH GIVE-AWAY STARTS NOW)

Incredibly, I'm STILL getting plenty of blank e-mails with none of the information we requested, and/or not sent from a BowieNet account. Obviously, these entrants will not be attending on September the 8th ...so please double check before you hit return!

So, for your fourth, and most likely, penultimate chance, (presuming you haven't already won a place) e-mail me now at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of "September 8th - Give-Away Four". Your e-mail will work whether you include the quotes, or you don't.

This fourth give-away ends tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 10:00am UK time. Good luck, and pop back tomorrow at Noon UK time for the next fifty winners.

Check Out The Poughkeepsie Media Player

"Hold it... yeah that's it. This is exactly my pose on the
New Killer Star sleeve... pretty darn rockin' cool, eh?!"

Just a little bit louder now...

Well, here's yet another delightful exclusive for BowieNet members. The bods over at UltraStar have created a Poughkeepsie media player, and I would imagine you've already guessed what it does.

We will gradually fill the thing with tracks from the Poughkeepsie show, and we start proceedings today with the magnificent She'll Drive The Big Car, ...not only that, but while you're listening, you can view a whole bunch of Kevin Mazur's stunning live shots from the show and from rehearsals that same day.

Click on the image above, or go here to have a look and listen.

September 8th Give-away Part Three

It feels like we never had a chance...

This is the give-away for the third batch of fifty places for what is pretty much a BowieNet show (seeing as the great majority of those attending will be BowieNetters) on September 8th at the Riverside Studio in Hammersmith.

I'm sure you all know how this works, if not, go check out the rules I posted on Thursday. (08/21/03 NEWS: SEPTEMBER 8TH GIVE-AWAY STARTS NOW)

Most of you seemed to have grasped the simplicity of this give-away, but I'm still getting lots of people sending blank e-mails with none of the information we requested. Needless to say, their chances of attending on the 8th are slim!

Anyway, for your third chance, (presuming you haven't already won a place) e-mail me now at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of "September 8th - Give-Away Three". Your e-mail will work whether you include the quotes, or you don't.

Bowie On Sunday Times Cd-rom Next Week

The Sunday Times they are a-telling, and the CD-Rom is free...

Today's Sunday Times here in the UK, has news in the Culture section of a CD-Rom that comes free with next week's August 31st issue. The three-page ad starts with the full-pager above, and turns to a two-page-spread detailing the content of the disc.

Next to another picture of David, (that is more than half a page deep) the Bowie-related part of this CD-Rom, (which is described as: "the ultimate guide to entertainment and arts in the months ahead") is teased with the following blurb:

David Bowie unveils his new album.
In our interactive feature, Bowie speaks exclusively about his latest project. There's new video footage of Bowie performing as well as excepts from his new album and past hits.

We'll bring you more details during the week, when we'll hopefully have a contest for copies of the CD-Rom for a few of you outside of the UK.

Db Covers Sss On Nks Dvd

Shoot it up, shoot it up, shoot it up...

I doubt that headline and lyric quote mean anything to many of you, but the details for the next David Bowie single release, New Killer Star, have been made available exclusively to BowieNet, and all will now become apparent.

The press release for the single won't be released to the media until Monday/Tuesday, but here it follows in its entirety, along with a couple of quotes from the writer of one of David's most intriguing and unexpected cover versions to date:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAVID BOWIE?S NEW SINGLE - ?NEW KILLER STAR? - LIMITED EDITION DVD ONLY SINGLE - RELEASED 29TH SEPTEMBER 2003

Hot on the heels of the announcement of his 26th studio album ?REALITY? and his ground breaking interactive live cinema event on September 8th, DAVID BOWIE has announced the details of the first single from ?REALITY? entitled ?NEW KILLER STAR?.

The pile-driving rhythm of ?NEW KILLER STAR? is the opening track of ?REALITY? and sets the tone for the mostly up-tempo feel of the album which Bowie himself has said ?Was built to play live?.

As with all things Bowie, the formatting of ?NEW KILLER STAR? is not exactly the norm and is a twist on the conventional wisdom of what a single is.

The single package itself will only appear as a limited edition DVD featuring the stunning video for the lead track as well as a very surprising cover version of ?Love Missile F-111?, originally recorded by 80?s cult heroes, Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

The highly individual video for ?NEW KILLER STAR? was directed by the Los Angeles based film-maker Brumby Boylston. The video itself is based on the concept of early 70?s lenticular postcards that reveal a different image depending on the angle at which it is viewed.

The DVD also features a four minute short film incorporating exclusive interview and performance footage of David performing and talking about tracks from ?REALITY

The album is released just prior to Bowie beginning his highly anticipated sold out European tour, which will commence on October 7th in Copenhagen and comes to a close in Glasgow on November 28th.

New Killer Star DVD Only Single Tracklisting

01 New Killer Star Video
02 Love Missile F1-11 (Audio Only)
03 Reality EPK Video

New Killer Star is released on Iso/Columbia Records September 29th - Reality is released on Iso/Columbia Records September 15th.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tony James, Martin Degville and Neal X of Sigue
Sigue Sputnik, shortly before Martin's departure.

Well apart from the great news that the NKS video will be available on this format, as will the full Reality EPK, (part of which members of BowieNet have already seen on the Reality Jukebox) it's also wonderful to hear that DB has chosen to cover Sigue Sigue Sputnik's 1986 #3 hit, Love Missile F1-11.

Anybody who knows anything about the band will know what huge Bowie fans they are, (that much must be apparent from their look alone) and indeed, they even released their own version of Rebel Rebel back in the Eighties too. I spoke to Tony James, (the mastermind behind the much misunderstood phenomenon that was Sigue Sigue Sputnik) on the phone this afternoon.

Here's a bit of what he said on hearing the news that David Bowie had recorded one of his songs: "That's really something, thanks for the GOOD news... the bastard sons of Ziggy get to hang with their creator."

I also asked Tony how he first got into the music of David Bowie: "Well as a young kid learning guitar, still at school, I went to see Ziggy at the Polytechnic of Central London (May 12th 1972) ...and my life changed. Wow, that's what I wanted to be!!! Ziggy Stardust was on the turntable forever, and GIRLS had the record too - so now I get it - I saw the future....!!"

And how appropriate that Ziggy should be the inspiration for what was possibly the most fabricated rock 'n' roll band of all time. Unfortunately, after that initial flush of success, and very healthy sales of the first album, the public didn't stay with the band, and Sigue Sigue Sputnik have remained pretty much a cult act to this day.

The recent (yesterday!) departure of the band's lead singer, Martin Degville, hasn't scuppered plans for the band's upcoming UK tour (to promote their next album, UltraReal) which kicks off on Sunday 31st August at Nottingham Rock City. I asked Tony how Martin's departure might affect the band: "Well, if you know any superstars who just learnt the words to F1-11 and would like to help out..!"

Well David, if you're reading this, I have a plus one to the Sputnik gig at the Camden Underworld on September 6th.

Come back tomorrow for part two of this most exciting, and frankly, very generous give-away.

Be Immortalised On Film With David Bowie

I'll say "Don't ask me..."

I think the majority of you may have stumbled across this one on the new splash page already, but just in case, here it is for those of you that haven't:

Ever wanted to ask David Bowie a question and then get an answer in real time? No it's not a web chat, it's something much more than that, and in true Bowie style it's something that's never been done before.

As you all know, on September 8th David is playing an invite only live show in London that is being beamed out to cinemas the world over, so far so good, right? Well, that's only part of it, as a handful of very lucky people are going to get the opportunity to ask David a question from the cinema they are in, and then, (via the magic of technology) David will answer the question personally, except he'll be on the screen and 20 feet tall!

All you've got to do is fill in what cinema you will be at and a couple of other details, and then just ask away. The best questions will then get asked live on September 8th. So get writing, and remember you're more likely to get chosen if you ask an interesting and original question. Click on the image above to take part, or go here.

While we're on the subject of this show, BowieNet members should stay tuned for the first of our ticket give-aways later today. But, don't panic if you're not able to join in today, there will be several chances to win tickets here on BowieNet over the coming week.

See More Exclusive Reality Tour Rehearsal Footage

I opened my eyes and I saw you...

Boy do we spoil you... We have another video-montage compiled from footage from the BowieNet rehearsal studio spy-on-the-wall. It's an even longer treat this time, and apart from some more jolly banter, there are snippets from three songs.

I've pasted anagrams of all three below, so you can either puzzle on those for a short while, or ignore my silliness and go straight to the action by clicking on the image above.

01 Evensong 5: ale hag 15
02 Mystery oboe sum
03 Grail chin

You still here? Go watch the vid, you silly thing!

September 8th Give-away Starts Now

Now that I've really got a chance...

OK, I'll keep this one as simple as possible, as I'm sure you're all far too anxious to put up with my usual waffle. This is the first of our exclusive BowieNet give-aways for the September 8th show at the Riverside Studio in Hammersmith that we told you about last week. (08/17/03 NEWS: HAMMERSMITH SHOW TICKET CONTEST NEXT WEEK)

Please read carefully before entering, as this give-away is not being done on a first-come-first-served basis. Don't panic, you do not stand a better chance of winning by being the fastest to send in an entry. In fact, I have noticed that The Random Generator has never yet chosen the first entry, so slow down and double-check the rules before you hit send. I know it's dull, but it's a necessary evil I'm afraid.

We plan to give away fifty places every other day, and we have somewhere between 250 and 300 places to fill. (We'll tell you the exact amount as soon as we know it.) We'll announce fifty winners every other day too. In other words, first give-away today, first fifty winners announced tomorrow, second give-away Saturday, second batch of fifty winners announced Sunday... and so on.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning a free place at this incredible event is e-mail me... but not yet, read these rules first:

You must be absolutely certain you can attend on September 8th before entering this give-away. You may jeopardise your chances in future contests if you just don't turn up on the day.

You must enter using your BowieNet account. If for some reason this is impossible for you, you must supply the reason you can't use your account and you must also supply your user name. We will check that each winner has a genuine BowieNet account.

You must supply your real name and address for identification purposes on the day, and a contact telephone number. The more information you supply, the easier it will be for us to contact you in an emergency. (In other words, give us your mobile number so we can ask where the hell you are on the day!)

Only one entry per member. Each successful winner will receive only one place at the event.

Once you have won a place, you may not try for another. If you do try for another place once you have already won, you could be disqualified altogether. If, however, you are unsuccessful, you may try again on the next give-away. In a worst-case scenario of just 250 places, we will have five give-away days.

You must be sure to have the right subject line in your e-mail for that day. For example, today's give-away is "September 8th - Give-Away One". Because of the large volume of e-mails I will receive for this event, the system is automated and e-mails will be delivered to the appropriate inbox. So if you send an e-mail with a subject of "September 8th - Give-Away One" when "September 8th - Give-Away Two" is current, your entry won't even be entered.

Each give-away ends at 10:00am UK time the morning after it is announced, and the fifty winners of that particular give-away will be announced at midday that day. In other words, this give-away ends tomorrow (Friday) at 10:00am, and the first fifty winners will be announced two hours later at 12:00 noon here on the news pages.

So much for not waffling...

OK, for your first chance, e-mail me now at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of "September 8th - Give-Away One". And don't forget to include the aforementioned information. I genuinely wish you all the very best of luck!
