Uk Political Party Leader Sings 'heroes' Tonight

Johnny Vaughan proudly shows off an actual Ziggy Stardust
gold disc that was presented to David Bowie...apparently.

I'll make you a deal, like any other candidate...

Viewers of BBC Choice may have caught the new chat show, Johnny Vaughan Tonight, on David's birthday last Tuesday. Johnny's guests were the inimitable Eddie Izzard, (a former BowieNet Chat guest) and leader of the UK Liberal Democrat party, Charles Kennedy, who has certainly made no secret of his Bowie fandom.

After a short but hilarious interview with the very sexy Eddie, Charles Kennedy received the Vaughan treatment...and it went something like this:

JV: "I've got down here that you are a massive Bowie fan. (To audience) Do you know it's David Bowie's birthday today?"

CK: "He's fifty five today, it's a big day."

(There then follows a short discussion on the fact that Elvis shares the same birthday, before the conversation returns to Bowie.)

JV: "But you are a massive fan of David Bowie?"

CK: "I am indeed."

JV: "And he means a lot to you?"

CK: "He means a great deal to me."

JV: "Would you sing for us a bit of Bowie?...and Eddie and I will join in a bit."

CK: "I think you'll have to lead it off."

JV: "We'll lead it off a little."

EI: "I've got a bad leg at the moment...I'll do the..."

JV: "And I'll just say, up for grabs is the actual gold disc Bowie received for The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars."

CK: "Heavens above!"

JV: "Which we are going to get Bowie to sign for you as well....teasing teasing." (Audience cheers)

JV: "I've got the words, they appear in that auto cue down there."

CK: (To audience) "Do you think he's teasing - do you?"

JV: "Teasing, teasing."

CK: (To audience again) "Do you think this really is the gold disc that David Bowie got for Ziggy Stardust?"

JV: "It is, it is, it is, no, hold it...go on...(JV offers disc to CK but snatches it away again) Teasing, teasing."

Johnny teases Charles, as Eddie looks on jealously.

They then agree to take a line each and the band start playing a spirited version of 'Heroes'. Johnny starts the song off and with complete abandon and arms flailing, he screeches: "I, I will be king."

Charles (with feet and hands moving to the beat) speaks (rather than sings) "And you..." (apparently pointing to Eddie) "...you will be queen."

Eddie and Johhny together sing "Nothing, will drive them away...we can beat them..." and Charles finishes the performance with "...just for one day."

JV: "There you go (hands the disc to CK) you own your very own Ziggy Stardust gold disc."

CK: "Fantastic, thank you."

And there you have it...another happy ending. I have to say though, that if I'd known it was that easy to get a Ziggy Stardust gold disc that had been presented to David Bowie, I would have started my own political party!

Anyway, you can catch a repeat of the goings on tonight at 11.45pm (GMT) and tomorrow at 10.30pm (GMT). Thanks everso to Susans for the screen grabs.
