Let's dance, to the song they're playing on the radio...
Recently received a 'Let's Dance' remix of dubious origin, a 12" single-sided red vinyl thing that bears the matrix identification of 'LET'S DANCE 1 A-1' in the run-out groove and no label information (apart from the above) whatsoever. Imagine then, my surprise when I heard a remarkably similar remix being used on Radio 1's Chris Moyles show as background music over the last few days.
I'm sure that this is purely coincidental and that the version Mr Moyles is playing has been cleared, but even a youngster such as myself (cries of "yeah right, you old git") can remember DJ Mike Reid playing tracks from the "Beckenham Oddity" bootleg (of David's 1969 acoustic demos) in the late Eighties on the very same station.
Whatever, the track I have is a fairly unremarkable affair that uses the basic track we all know and love, with a baseline that sounds like it was inspired by Mr Oizo's 'Flat Beat' and lots of typically 'now' EQ filtering and phasing. It'd probably get you off your arse at a disco though...do they have discos anymore?
