Just playing that latest record...
The release this week of the BBC tie-in double CD of the TV show 'I Love The 80s', looks set to put a third double CD compilation that contains Bowie music into the UK chart. The sublime 'Ashes To Ashes' kicks off the set, making it a tough act for the other artists to follow, and track fourteen of the second disc is 'Absolute Beginners'. For your diary, this week's instalment of the program (Sat 10th Feb, BBC2 21:05 - 22:35 GMT, 90 mins) focuses on 1983, and will surely document what must have been Bowie's most commercially successful year.
The two other compilations currently in the chart are: 'Top of the Pops 2 - 70's Rock', another BBC tie-in which was released on January 15th and contains 'The Jean Genie', and 'The Greatest Number 1 Singles', released a week earlier on David's birthday, containing 'Space Oddity'. Personally, I like to think that the success of these compilations is down to the astute compiler who decided to include these undisputed Bowie classics. };-)
