King's Heroes

King Crimson, including Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp started their European tour yesterday in Copenhagen. Comprised mostly of songs from their upcoming album, the 1 1/2 hour show ended with a cover version of 'Heroes', complete with Fripp's trademark guitar licks as he laid them down on Bowie's 'Heroes' album over 22 years ago.

Perfect Day This...erm...evening

Just a reminder to UK members that the BBC Music Live event concludes this glorious Bank Holiday Monday. (A traditional UK holiday here in the UK in lieu of Whit Sunday, a day commemorating the day of Pentecost...it says here.) At 10pm (GMT) this evening Radio 2 will be supplying a Karaoke version of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day' so that we can all sing along and pretend to be David Bowie on the bits that he sang on the beautiful BBC version.

Don't forget you can also donate that old Mellotron you have in your loft, (or any other abandoned instrument that is still in good working order) to INSTRUMENT AMNESTY up until close of play this evening. Go here for more: www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive.

Out On The Town

Wondering what David Bowie's been doing for fun lately? Well, on Monday (May 15) night he was palling around with Page Hamilton, the ex-Helmet leader who's been playing guitar with Bowie on and off for awhile now. The two took in the Wire, pan sonic, DJ Otefsu (the DJ moniker for Jim Thirwell of Foetus) show at Irving Plaza in New York. Bowie actually sat right next to Thirwell's DJ rig in the balcony.

Bbc's Music Live In The Uk

Bowie gives needy young musician the horn...

'Music Live', the BBC's five-day celebration of live music, started in earnest in the UK yesterday. The event which runs from 25-29th May can be followed by going to www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive. More than 10,000 hours of live music and over 6,000 concerts are promised for a population of 59 million people. The whole thing culminates in a nation-wide live rendition of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day' on Bank Holiday Monday at 10pm (GMT), as previously reported on BowieNet. Radio 2 will be supplying the music so that we can all sing along in the comfort of our own homes, or like me you can really enter into the spirit by singing naked on your front lawn...perhaps.

David Bowie is among the many celebrities who have donated something toward the INSTRUMENT AMNESTY by pledging one of his own saxophones. INSTRUMENT AMNESTY is a collaboration between BBC Music Live and the National Foundation for Youth Music which aims to "give a young person a chance to fulfil their dream of making music." Donations are being accepted up until the last day of the festival and again you can pledge by going to www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive. See you on the lawn!

Bbc Plans 'perfect Day'

Lou Reed will lead a star studded rendition of his classic, 'Perfect Day', to close the BBC Music Live event on Monday 29th May.

There will be a live link-up across all the BBC channels, and Ronan Keating, Tony Bennet and Bob Geldof will all take part. The song will probably be recorded and released to raise funds for 'Children In Need'.

DB has been involved in this project before, and has given a saxophone to the Instrument Amnesty for young people. He also raised £3000 for 'Children In Need' by agreeing to 'meet and greet' two fans after the Astoria gig in London in December.

The BBC web casts large events such as this one, and the quality is usually excellent.

'heroes' On New Compilation

We can be Heroes...for ever and ever

Vendice Partners would have approved. The appearance of the single version of David Bowie's 'Heroes' on the double CD compilation 'The Best TV Ads...Ever!', brings the total of DB tracks on compilations to three in as many weeks. The idea behind the CD is pretty much self-explanatory, and a full track-listing can be viewed by clicking on the above image. 'Heroes' is included here because of its use in the CGU advertising campaign in the UK.

Bowie's New Net Release...or Is It?

This is a job for ART CRIME INC...or is that ART INK CRIME?

Perhaps the oddest piece of Bowie press here in the UK in recent days, appeared in the dotcom.telegraph pullout of The Daily Telegraph last Thursday 14th. The front of the broad-sheet heralded: "David Bowie puts his new release on the net."...Quickly leafing through to page eight to see what secret our man had kept from us, I was greeted by two large reproductions (albeit a mono page) of the Bowie art works 'Head of EB' and 'Hand and Leg'.

This is where it gets strange. The article was primarily about the controversial Zurich-based internet artists, The etoy.Corporation, and loosely about art on the net. There is a brief mention of www.bowieart.com in a footnote to the piece about selling art online, but one can't help wondering if either The Telegraph has taken a lesson from CGU (see above) on the value of Bowie helping sell one's product, or, (a far more exciting theory, but less likely) that perhaps David Bowie is a member of the aforementioned anonymous collective that is The etoy.Corporation!
