Everyone should check out this detailed interview (11 pages!) with DB in Sound and Vision Magazine's first issue of the new Millennium. Does that mean we're the cutting edge of the cutting egde? Cool.

Check out the lovely photo on page 9 of the BowieNet webmaster in his UltraStar environs. Looks familiar. ;-)

RADIO FREE TOP 100

Time to vote!

As of the most recent (January 1st, 2000) update, Bowie placed #80 in the Radio Free Top 100 Music Poll. The poll is to be updated every 3 months, so lets get a good head start on the next round, and flood those ballot boxes! Here is a message from the Top 100 site:

"We're always interested in the opinion of our readers, so we've set up this ongoing poll where you can vote for your favorite artist. The rules are simple: everyone who participates gets 5 votes. You can split them up however you like: you can cast 1 vote for five artists, or, if you are an obsessive freak, you can cast all 5 votes for one artist."

Let's see some obsessive-freak-style votes for DB! :-)

Do You Want Ginger With That David?

Quite a build-up to this one from 6:30am this morning UK time, with Virgin Radio boss Chris Evans pretending tofret that he hoped David would be up in time for the 'live' interview!

David set the scene with the information that it was 2:20am in New York and that he had just finished washing hishands, having helped some workmen to lift paving slabs after a mains pipe had burst outside in the street. If youheard the interview and believed that statement, then you have a cruel life ahead of you.

But, I believe the story was merely a vehicle for the beautifully spiritual message that followed. A message that, while it works on the literal level that David had painted in our minds to illustrate his point, it obviously holds adeeper meaning that stretches out across the nations of the Earth and is the very essence of BowieNet: "Chris",Said David, "If you're gonna live in a community, I really think that you have to be part of it."

Go here for the whole thing.

Just For Fun: Life From Mars?!?!

In a study presented Wednesday at the national meeting of the American Astronomical Society, experts said their calculations show that if life ever existed on Mars then it could have been carried to Earth aboard some 5 trillion rocks blasted from the Red Planet by impacting asteroids.

They concluded that it is theoretically possible that life on Earth came from life on Mars!

Bowiebanc.com

Banking on Bowie to
Bring in the Bucks

Ziggy played guitar, or so goes the famous David Bowie song. Now he's making loans and quoting CD rates. At least in name. David Bowie, an online pioneer, has quietly launched his own bank, BowieBanc.com. Want more of the Thin White Duke? Then get Bowie photo checks. You can get all the standard bank services -- just don't expect Bowie himself to approve your loan.

The bank is actually USABancShares.com, with a Bowie front end. Robert Goodale, whose company Ultrastar runs Bowie's online service, BowieNet, says a bank is one more way to create online community. It's part of the "complete private label Internet presence" many celebs seek.

Bowie previously dabbled in banking in 1997, when he sold bonds against his future earnings to raise $55 million.

Bowiebanc - The World Catches Up!

'Gonna find her some money honey'

Months after the announcement on BowieNet of the launch of BowieBanc.com the story has finally brokenon many online news services. At least one of these items, quotes BowieNet's very own action-hero andlover of the Bolanesque, Ron Roy. Here is a snippet from the news service supplied by dotmusic.com:

Ron Roy, one of Bowie's partners in the new online bank, commented "David has always pridedhimself on being first". Roy is also involved in the legendary rocker's online company UltraStarand his Internet service provider, Bowienet... It is hoped by Bowie and his partners that fans will wishto use the bank, to show their loyalty and passion for the ever changing brand that is David Bowie. Roysaid "You've got a passion for something, you want to show your passion."

Unfortunately the service doesn't seem to be available to us fans in Europe, so how long before voided UScards start to appear on ebay?!

It appears that the only national here in the UK to announce the launch of BowieBanc.com today, was theBowie-championing Daily Star who ran a short piece that can be read by clicking the above image or goingto their web site here. It would seem that the Star has a fan in its midst.

The Girl With The Mousy...erm...blonde...or Is It Red?...hair

'The Most I Can Offer'

In a new year clearout, and a spectacularly failed attempt to 'simplify my life', I stumbled across the above itemwhich happens to be a mint condition copy of 'the fabulous LITTLE RICHARD' on Specialty Records. I have afeeling it is a re-issue as opposed to the original, but I'm sure it would suit somebody who needs a copy just forplaying.

As I say I don't really need it, so the first person with a wonky left eye and an ex backing band called The Spiders toe-mail me with a claim, can collect the prize forthwith.
