Bowie And The Bombers

Tuesday's New York Post printed this article about the newest Bowie / UltraStar project: www.yankees.com

The article talks about Bowie's evolvement with the new Yankee's site, and includes a mocked-up photo of Bowie jammin with a few of the boys. Take a look at the article here.

The story has also been picked up by the following:

    www.billboard.com
    www.launch.com
    Jazzin' for Steinbrenner
    www.sonicnet.com

Bowie had this to say about the new Yankee site:

"We hope to deal with one of the most profound unanswered questions in all of sports. [Yankees teammates] Paul O'Neill can play drums, Bernie Williams can play guitar, but who's on bass?" - db

Vh-1 / Mission Accomplished

Last night, an intimate crowd of 250, including 50 BowieNet members weretreated to alive performance by David Bowie for the VH-1 Storyteller show.

This wasBowie's first live performance in nearly two years. The band was amazinglytight and the acoustics first rate. Besides a short, sweet tease ofRebel Rebel, here was the set list:

    SET LIST
    Life On Mars
    Thursday's Child
    Can't Help Thinking About Me
    Seven
    China Girl
    Survive
    Word On A Wing
    Drive In Saturday
    Encore
    Thursday's Child (re-taped)
    I Can't Read
Always Crashing In The Same Car
    If I'm Dreaming My Life
The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell

For the encore, the band re-played Thursday's Child (done a bit faster thesecond time). Bowie was in good spirits, told some great stories, includingencounters with Marc Bolan, Iggy Pop, Steve Marriot, Brian Eno, Mott theHoople, plus several personal stoies from his own experiences.

The 50 BowieNet members were CLEARLY rockin' throughout the evening!Congratulations to our lucky winners.

We will be posting our 50 winners personal journalsup on the site as soon as they all get back home and have had a chance torecover. We will look forward to hearing what they thought of the evening.

We Are All Sick

In an interesting article in The Sunday Times, Bowie and Iman get called out as the poster children for Internet addicts.

The article is entitled "Health Experts say Net Nerds are Sick People" - and goes on to warn:

"Nerds Beware - European Union psychologists have decided that anyone who surfs the Internet for more than four hours a day is clinically ill and needs medical treatment"

    (Ed. Note: "Get a modem")

There is an email address for letters to theeditor,(letters@sunday-times.co.uk). FYI, these comments on the week'snews make up a full page next Sunday. It would be great to see someletters from BowieNetters in defense of our "habit".

Bowie was quoted in the article:
"if you are enthusiastic about things such as the web your regarded with suspicion. But it's absolutely the new way of communicating" - db

THANKS TO SPACEFACE FOR THE STORY

Bowienet's Got The Goods

Well, at least according to www.highfive.com

High Five reviews sites on the web, selected monthly on the basis of design, conception, execution, and content, with an emphasis on clear information design and visual aesthetics.

Here is a clip from the review:

"Yes, it looks good.Every page on DavidBowie.com is lucious in layout and style. We found ourselves clicking on every link we could in order to find one bad page that did not look like an art piece. The sweat, time and energy needed to cut and polish this gem is evident.Yes, it's got the goods.

Thanks High Five, we love that!

Update: We Want Your Participation!

Every once in a while, BowieNet asks it's members to send in stories, news, pictures and general Bowie tidbits that you see out there in the world,so that we can add them to the site. But except for a few die hard fans(you know who you are, and thank you) the incoming news and scoops stillseem to need a boost.

So it's as simple as this: BowieNet will have a contest from now until theend of the year to see who can provide the best BowieNet stories and news items (as it relates to David Bowie). If you win, and we get "THE" killer story of the year postedon the site because of your detective/reporter skills, or you simply send in more magazine clippings, Bowie news stories, or media mentions than any other member, you will get a simpleyet rare prize: a personal phone call from our boss (yes, David Bowie).

David will ring you up and personally thank you for contributing to BowieNet. So, what are you waiting for? Send your stories toinfo@davidbowie.com. Who knows, you might just get a special phone callfrom Bowie.
