Eri Wilde's Trip to Kyoto
~ in Search of Bowie's Memoirs ~

18 August, Saturday

Only a day in Kyoto was left for me. Checking out the hostel, I decided to go to Kyoto station to leave my luggage in the locker and see somewhere near the station. So, I thought I should visit two places, Kyoto National Museum and Kyoto Tower.

Kyoto National Museum

Unfortunately, the main building was closed. I could not see the real picture scroll of the most famous part of Chojugiga, because they have too many stuff to exhibit and they regularly replace the exhibited materials. So I saw the exhibition of idolatories of Buddhism, porcrlains and other picture scrolls. They still impressed me very much.

Chojugiga

At the shop of the museum, there are many kinds of Chojugiga and I enjoyed seeing them so much! The Chojugiga goods seemed to be very popular souvinirs for tourists. There were soucers of Chojugiga, the immitation of picture scrolls of Chojugiga, handkerchieves of Chojugiga, etc. I bought the stationary set of Chojugiga among them all. I may write to you with it some day! :o)

Kyoto Tower

Leaving the museum, I visited Kyoto Tower. In the building down the tower, there were many souvinir shops. I got on the elevator to go up to the top of the tower.

The View from the Top of Kyoto Tower

This picture seems to have caught the view in the north-eastern direction. The mountain you can see closest to the city is Mt. Higashi. Togento was behind the mountain, hiding its figure. Before going down with the elevator, I said goodby to Kyoto.

CD-ROM of the Gion Festival

In the Kyoto Tower building, I bought this CD-ROM. The Gion Festival is the representative festival in Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Bowie visited Kyoto for their honeymoon and got on one of the hokos, called Tsuki-hoko, like what you can see in the picture. The one on the cover really looks like Tsuki-hoko, but it is another hoko called Naginata-hoko. This is a very good CD-ROM with which I can travel back to Kyoto in front of my computer. It is very difficult for me to visit Kyoto to see the Gion Festival in July, but I wish I could see it some day.

I got on the bus taking me back to Kagawa prefecture, thanking all the people that gave me wonderful experiences and memories.
