12/04/98 UPDATE: SHOW ME THE MONEY

Chris Ofili, the 30yr old from Manchester, England, is the first painter to win Britains' prestigious £20,000 Turner Prize in 13 years. The Turner has previously gone to sculptors, Installationists, media-artists and the like. Ofili, a long time favourite artist of Bowies', is renowned for including not only dialogue-provoking black imagery in his work, but also large pieces of elephant dung. His idiosyncratic approach has often divided critics, (of course). On excepting the prize from fashion designer agnes b., Ofili exclaimed "Thank God. Where's my check?"
