Here's the info: -

'Incendiary Soul: A Biographical Homage to the Sales Brothers'.

Category: Portfolio/Catalog.

. Description: 'Incendiary Soul- A Biographical Homage to the Sales Brothers.'

Popular music eBook odyssey, exploring the Sales Brothers' repertoire that forms a soundtrack to modern life. The Sales Brothers are one of the most revered rhythm sections in popular music and have always recorded in esteemed company, making their debut with Todd Rundgren and later on Iggy Pop's archetypal 'Lust for Life'; they are also founder members of David Bowie's Tin Machine.

"Fuelled by youthful libidinal drives and an excess of good living, the music, madness and mayhem that surrounds the public personas of the Blues and Sales Brothers alike during their heyday share some common threads. Both possess rich, soulful human qualities and enjoyed memorable collaborations with some of the greats of the music industry!", Stephanie Lynne Thorburn.

'Incendiary Soul' 2012 includes: - Discography, exploration of Hunt & Tony's original musical homage to the Stax/ Volt legacy 'Hired Guns', in-depth interviews, biography, catalogue of features, archival photos, obituary to Hunt & Tony's father Soupy Sales and testimonial contributions from colleagues including Stooges guitarist James Williamson. (There is plenty of content in the interviews on the enigma of Tin Machine..)

Blues Scholars.

Stephanie Lynne's blog, April 2012.

A few special excerpts to share as we approach the weekend from my new text on the blues greats. Some Sales Brothers/ Tin Machine treats next week..

Excerpts from new compendium eBook:

'The Blues Scholars: Etudes on the Blues Greats.'

By Stephanie Lynne Thorburn.

Intro.

"The blues is justifiably equated with affairs of the heart. It is a fundamental, primordial musical form that is intrinsic to the American psyche. The semiotics and life essence of Delta blues migrated over time and cross-fused with white commercial blues-rock. There is a considerable degree of transcendence in the essence of the blues, articulated in the reverence and integrity the medium has established, hyperbolised with folk legends and demonic imagery. Despite the dissenting voices of modern revisionist critique, blues music has spoken consistently for the disenfranchised; it has acted as a documentation of the evolution of civil rights and the history of oppression- it is a medium of liberation." Stephanie Lynne.

'Blues Scholars' represents a musicologist's labour of love on the blues greats and includes biography, interviews and testimonials authored between 2002 and 2012 by Stephanie Lynne Thorburn. The compendium is now available from author's page on True Fire.com, see:

Author's Profile & eBooks

Foreword By: Dr. David English. (ex-President RSO Records, Eric Clapton/ Bee Gees.)

I am delighted to write a few words supporting my dear friend Stephanie Lynne Thorburn and her forthcoming book, ´The Blues Scholars´. Stephanie is the official archivist of my Bunbury celebrity cricket team, a wonderful writer and our number one supporter. We are indebted to her for the passion she exudes for the Bunbury cause.

As first President of RSO Records, I had the proud distinction of looking after Eric Clapton and his recordings worldwide. Eric introduced me to his hero B.B. King. I soon learned that the Blues was powered by more than a century of the harrowing story of a people, telling us of their particular pain and joy. When B.B. King lays his hands on his guitar Lucille, he unleashes a power, vibrancy and delight that is the equal of anything by a human playing an instrument.

Sophisticated poets and playwrights strive to express tragedy, misery, joy, love, heartbreak, but can they equal the simple eloquence of the Blues? How could you sum up a week (or a life) more cogently than T-Bone Walker: "They call it Stormy Monday, but Tuesday´s just as bad!" For raucous partying what compares with Bessie Smith yelling, "Gimme a pig foot and a bottle of beer." St. James Infirmary that song of love, death and burial, was an 18th Century English folk song, but Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong gave it raw power.

The blues was music played by black Americans for black Americans, yet it was the white boys from Britain who were among the most important in helping it travel further, revolutionising music...

So Eric told the world about his hero B.B. King, and people believed him. The Rolling Stones paid homage to Muddy Waters and these men were brought out of their racial ghetto and introduced to the world. When Lightnin´ Hopkins sang "My starter won´t start this morning, my motor won´t even turn," whether he was talking about his car, his spirits or something more intimate, Shakespeare couldn´t have put it better!

Chapter 4.

A King Of Delta Blues: B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Centre.

(Article originally printed in Los Angeles Chronicle).

Feature: Stephanie Lynne Thorburn.

For the 'King of Blues', his instrument Lucille has always represented far more than an emotion or woman; she is an ebony, maple gold, pearl-inlaid heir to the Gibson throne. Her family tree leads us to the road where the crossroads point towards the very essence of modern electric blues. It is from her breast that Riley B. King has drawn a lifetime of achievements. Powerful yet sensual, unfaltering vibrato strokes, signature second string bends and trademark techniques are delivered with economic precision. Countless historians have acknowledged the details of significant events in the politics of race and oppression, yet with his guitar by his side, B.B. King is a total entity, he is a cultural event- creative, unerringly personal and iconoclastic. Fire, tempered with the flood of native Mississippi indignation, he realised his musical ends through blood, sweat and tears, tempered by the grace of gospel for those who are willing to receive his presence. It is the musical piece de resistance of T-Bone Walker, Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy and B.B.'s deft vibrato that has collectively breathed depth and form into a new millennium of blues. Eclipsing the worlds of jazz and trad blues, B.B. King's progressive cry for liberty from the depression and plantations could never be reducible to oral history written solely into the pages of a biography or musical score.

To mark BB´s 80th birthday, a groundbreaking project was broached in June 2006 to establish a museum marking some six decades in the career of the ´King of blues´, comprising the B.B. King Museum and ´Delta Interpretive Centre´, an educational facility that opened in September 2008. Placed in B.B.´s hometown of Indianola Mississippi, located partially on the site of an abandoned gin mill where King once laboured, the museum provides outreach and education to impoverished youngsters in the Delta region, stimulating a new generation of musicians. The facility encompasses some 20,000 square feet of exhibitions and educational programmes for local residents and visitors alike. The centre offers an integration of oral histories, including those of King, formed into short films and computer interactive elements. B.B. King´s museum facility is designed to preserve not only his seminal legacy, but also the unique and world-renowned cultural heritage of the Mississippi Delta region. The facility hopes to unite the community via music, art and education, utilising B.B. King´s inspiring life-odyssey as a symbolic example of the ´American Dream´. B.B.´s influence as an ´artist and icon´ in the 1960´s is addressed in association with the Civil Rights movement in shaping music of the era; the emphasis of the facility is very much orientated toward appraising the needs of the underprivileged and disadvantaged.

The official web base for the B.B. King Museum Foundation provides a succinct description of the philosophies and facilities forming the foundation of the project: -

"The B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Centre will offer Delta young people hope. Proposed educational, cultural and character development programming will take the form of classes, mentoring, interactive exhibits and B.B. King could not find in the Mississippi of his youth. In addition, the stories of the Delta, from its history to its music, social mores, race relations, literature and legends, adversities and successes will be examined in one interpretive setting. Since all these elements came together to produce the Blues and bluesmen, the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Centre will be a repository for the ingredients that brewed America´s roots music."

The B.B. King Museum is situated in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, on US Highway 82, between Greenwood and Greenville, near the infamous Crossroads at Clarksdale.

Blues Scholars Resume:

I am in the process of assimilating eBook content, both commercial and more specialised on a range of musical genres. 'The Blues Scholars' is my compendium eBook representing work I have written overtime. Compendium collection includes chapters on: B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Bo Diddley, Etta James & Eric Clapton. The features in turn are enriched by a range of contributions from musicians and fellow authors. I am considering dedicating this project to raising awareness for autoimmune inflammatory conditions including colitis and Behcet's; conditions I have direct experience of and know that greater research/ awareness would make a difference to the quality to many people´s lives. The contributors of ´Blues Scholars,´ have all collectively excelled in offering rich insights and perspectives on the blues- the chapters display a continuation of my own learning curve. The eBook is also archived to Academia.edu.

Who in essence then, are the ´blues scholars´ I am referring to in my collection? At this point of juncture, let us not forget some apt words spoken by Eric Clapton, regarding the over analysis of Robert Johnson´s mystique. In the liner notes to 'Robert Johnson: The Complete Recordings', Clapton simply praised the ´truth and beauty´ in the substance of Johnson´s work, wishing that assessment of his repertoire had become less of a ´scholarly event´. The blues scholars are essentially the most revered exponents of their genre, who have excelled as musicians and legends beyond the confines of their circumstances, craft and era.
