Egads - December already!
December 02, 2008 02:43AM
Here's a red and yellow cup I made recently. We are having our student sale at school on Wednesday and I hope to sell it then. I have a lot to do to get ready for that sale - pricing, listing and packing stuff. The pricing's the hard part. I don't have THAT much stuff to sell though, so really it shouldn't be so bad. I'll get that all done tomorrow. Today I've been trying to decide just what to sell. And I sold two cups already - one to my neighbor Barbara and one to her sister Sylvia. Lovely supportive people they are - possessing good taste too
. I think Barbara's going to buy a bowl too. YAY!
Well I had a good day today. Some guys came and pruned my apple tree, camellia, rhododendron and two giant climbing roses (with nothing to climb on). Then I sold those cups. Then I got a check in the mail as well as my "Share and Smile" package - a lovely calendar from Gaz all the way in Scotland! It did make me smile! Did some much needed yard work today too (inspired by my tidied tree and shrubs). Wish I could go to bed now but still have some chores to do as tomorrow is trash pick up day. Gotta PM Gaz too
.
I joined Facebook yesterday and right off the bat found a long lost friend. I have been looking for him off and on for years (and he me I think) so I am SO HAPPY to find him! Too bad I will be obliged to inform him of some things that will make him sad though
. I wish I could have found him a few years ago - but I couldn't. I bet my friend has a lot to tell me about too. Not all our catching up will be sad - for example, I can show my friend I now make cool red cups! Facebook sure is addictive - much more appealing than this place lately - free too...
In case anyone's wondering, yes I AM thrilled Obama won! Hooray for a complete repudiation of those awful republicans! Though it's too early to know much, seems to me our President Elect is already doing a good job. I kept my lawn sign up!
Hope everybody's OK - hugs to everyone!
Another present from Mom

In case there's any doubt who I'm for after the last post
. The Portland Obama campaign headquarters are right in our neighborhood about half way between my house and Mom's. I had not intended to get a lawn sign - nor wear an Obama tee shirt or button. Oh well, I could not really resist putting the sign up once I had it of course. I am actually quite anxious about the election. I have "electionitis" I guess
. The republican party divide-and-conquer tactics, their dirty tricks, lies, cheating, smears, backward thinking, mob mentality, abuse of power, disastrous, mean spirited policy - if they are able to make all this stuff work for them to put another republican in the white house - well, I fear for the future of my country. If Obama wins - as all polls indicate he will - I fear for his safety, thus again for the future of my country. I guess I shouldn't have watched all those internet videos of the ugliness displayed at republican events. I MUST remember that most people are not like that! It has been my experience in fact, that most people are good and kind. I hope we all can overcome the anger and anxiety across this country and get to the business of fixing our problems. Mom said she is just going to put white light around Obama and not spend any energy on negative thoughts about the pubs. This is something Mom has done for years - and I do too - we "put white light" around someone. If we find ourselves worrying about a loved one (or someone important to us) we imagine that person surrounded with white light - protective light that nothing bad can penetrate. This does not mean we would not protect a person with more material means if we can. For example, if I saw a child wandering around in traffic I'd try to get the kid out of the street rather than surround him with white light thinking a car would bounce off it. Anyhoo - good idea from Mom - send out light, don't dwell on the negative. She is wise, my mom. She is doing sooo much better than she was a year ago. She was so up for my birthday this year. I have been so concerned about her for so long - since before we knew my dad was sick, and even more since he died at the end of '06. She still misses him of course, but she seems to have turned a corner. That light of hers is shining through. When I think of her now I am relieved and grateful. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present.
Birthday Flowers from George
October 19, 2008 08:50PM
(I got anniversary flowers on the 4th too, but they weren't as good as these.) My birthday was Wednesday. I'm 46 now, which seems impossible. It was a good day with many presents, good wishes and pampering from George and my mom. Thank you to all you b-net members for the nice b-day wishes.
Mom gave me a cake to take to the studio at school (I spend all day there on Wednesdays) so I shared cake with everyone and got to talk about myself all day: "Have some birthday cake - yes that's right, it's my birthday...yes, today!" Mom planned that one well
. After school I went home and watched the debate with Mom and George, ate delish take out dinner provided by Mom and (more) cake and ice cream provided by George. Mom and I had fun exclaiming over how creepy, angry and unhinged McCain seemed. I think we even went "Eeewwwww!' a couple times in unison, much to George's amusement. A good time was had by all
.
