Prof. Elena Ashkenazy

April 09, 2010 11:07PM

The 2nd Takamatsu International Competition was held from Mar. 17 to 28 at the capital city of our prefecture Kagawa.
I was offered a job of jury's attendant and had a great opportunity to talk with them.
One of the jury was Prof. Elena Ashkenazy.
She is the sister of Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of the world's best known pianists.
I like to play Chopin because of the influence of his performance. So I was very excited to know his sister was one of the jury.
I was also surprised to know she had been living in Tokyo for a long time.
I could introduce myself to her briefly while attending her. And I could ask her to take a picture with me at the reception after the competition.
I think she is a very frank and sensitive woman.
The contestants' performance was extraordinary.
I wish I could play like them, but all I can do is just to practice.
My next recital is to be held in July.
I hope I can play Chopin Polonasie Op. 26 No. 2 better than the last one.

Chopin Polonaise Op.26 No.1 in C sharp Minor

December 13, 2009 08:56PM

My YouTube Video

Yesterday, our Kawai Music School held another Christmas Concert, and I participated in the rather casual party. My husband filmed me, so I can upload this video for you.
Some played the flute, some played ukulele, some played the guitar, and others sang.
After a few years of attending this annual event, I can find the members' technique has improved and feel good.
It was such a great realm of amateurism!
And I played Chopin's elemental piece.
Still struck with stage fright, I managed to juggle it up!
After my turn, a hard-core madam played Chopin Barcarolle in such a remarkable way that I could not help admiring her after the show.
She even gave me some compliment when I went to greet her. It was very encouraging.
My teacher will play Polonaise "Heroique" next year, and I will try to play Polonaise No.2. She said to me, 'Let's carry on together!' before our departure, and it was also heart-warming.

Clair de Lune - Debussy

July 28, 2009 11:03AM

Hi, everyone.
It was great to see the partial solar eclipse the other day, even though I could barely see it between fairly thick clouds. The sun looked as if it were a crescent.

And quite coincidentally, I attended another piano recital last Sunday to play 'Clair de Lune' by Dubussy, which I had declared I would try to play a few months before here. The recital was recorded and I hope to post it on YouTube when it comes out. But for now, please enjoy listening to my pre-recital session at home, if you'd like.

I will play this one again and hopefully other tunes as well at my favorite piano bar in the beginning of August, because the owner, my temporary piano teacher, invited me for the whimsical music session there. The guests will take turns singing and playing various instruments. Sounds great! I'll have to practice well for the fantastic opportunity,
