Billy talent concert review
January 21, 2007 01:37AM
What: Billy Talent w/guests
When: January 19, 2007
Where: Pacific Coliseum
Status: Sold out
Rating: 5/5
What separates Billy Talent from most bands on modern rock radio today is that they can deliver both in the studio and live. The energy and the tightness that you hear on their albums is what you get from the live shows, energy amplified times ten. Yes Billy Talent are punk, however, unlike the candy coated punk pop/emo bands, they're not shedding a tear and making one lock themselves in a dark closet. The lyrics are emotionally driven, often very political, however, there's a raw punk rock energy behind the songs.
Even though this is one of the first few concert of 2007, I can safely say that this will be one of the best this year. Ben K. has an undeniable stage presence missing in most rock front men.
Before damaging my knees to the constant pogo jumping to Billy Talent I got warmed up with Rise Against, a warp tour veteran and favorable band within the modern punk rock circuit. This was my first time hearing Rise Against. I've heard so much about them prior and like any band that has a buzz surrounding them, I was curious to see what the fuss was about. I finally understood two songs into the set what the big deal was all about. Rise Against were one of my favorite opening acts in a very long time.
What made the show was the energy that fed off the audience, most consisting of teenagers who reminded me of myself at their age. Instead of Billy Talent, the band was Green Day, however, the sentiment was still the same.
Stage setting was simple but then again a band like Billy Talent doesn't need pyrotechnics when their music speaks for themselves. Pyrotechnics would've been a waste considering that most of us were too busy moshing and pogo-ing releasing our angst. Teenagers releasing their frustrations as they screamed the lyrics to "Worker Bees" and corporate people like myself just frustrated with life and politics in general.
There aren't a lot of bands, especially recent bands in the past ten years to really grab my attention. There was of course Velvet Revolver. Billy Talent have a lot to offer and unlike most bands who have a lousy follow up album, this show proved that not only did they break the "follow up curse" that plagues most bands but they've mastered the art of concert performance.
Am I abusing my dog?
January 09, 2007 04:15PM
Being sick and being bored I decided to contact some local vets on an issue that has been bothering me since the holidays. Someone, not mentioning who, made a comment that since I don't walk the dog every single day that it's considered abuse. For the record, I do walk the dog at least 3 days out of the 5 (my sister takes care of the weekends) times for 30 - 60 minutes each walk. There are some days I'm unable to 'cause I'm cleaning the house, combing the dog, have other things that need to be done, however, I do make sure that he is well taken care of. Maybe this person was just telling me this to be a bitch and make me feel guilty, however, I feel that I'm not abusing the dog. That dog is the reason I come home, my reason for being happy and is the only thing worth coming home to after a long day at work. If it weren't for that dog, I would've been living with Josh by now somewhere way earlier than we had planned. My dog keeps me sane and reminds me that I what I do is appreciated. Any suggestion that what I do or not may be abusing the dog hurts me.
I cantacted the following clinics who should get back to me before the end of the day.
Animal Care Clinic on Alberta St
Atlas Animal Hospital
Dellbrook Mall Animal Hospital
Central Animal Emergency
South Burnaby Vet
In the event that I'm correct I'm going to find out where and from whom my "friend" got this information that I'm abusing the dog due to lack of walks. If this person works for a vet clinic, I will call their superior and make sure that make sure that they're notified that they are passing along false information to dog owners. If the clinic do not do anything about this I can at least file a compliant with the Better Business Bureau. I know that my "friend" won't give up this information right away, however, at least she knows not to fuck with me. I believe in Karma and she will get hers.
My last photo shoot

I finally got around to making the changes to this page that I needed to. My FTP was acting like a jack ass this weekend, however, hopefully it is now Greg approved and all the changes show up on others computers. Here is the first of the Vancityangels.com shoot I had done this month. If the changes are not to Greg's satisfaction, I can make them along the way at my sister's. I just wanted to get this posted before heading home after the Holidays and finishing up my other list of projects.
Here is some of the set from my site

And then some more.
