Family

February 08, 2008 09:23AM

When I was at St. Edward's University, one of the things I continued from my studies at the University of Chicago Circle Campus was Anthropology. Obviously, I still study anthropology.

What is a family?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family

Family denotes a domestic group of people, or a number of domestic groups linked through descent (demonstrated or stipulated) from a common ancestor, marriage or adoption.

One of the best quotes I read from the great Margaret Mead was:

A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mead

The other thing I was able to study all my life was theology.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theology

Having a sister 11 yrs older than I leave our family unit to become a Catholic nun at 15 sort of began my education at the young age of 4. Ever since I could remember my sister had a strange calling to pray to the Virgin Mary. Growing up in a 1/2 Catholic family we of course had an alter with the picture of Our Lady of Guadelupe and various statues. My mother's favourite of course was St. Francis.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi

What I later found out is that our little family fled to San Antonio because my mother was from and orphanage and my father was more or less the black sheep. He was the oldest of two sons. Even though he was a generous although probably a handful as a child, he could never seem to get the approval of his mother. Gearld was small only 5'6" and yet his younger brother was tall and just as handsome. Both men fought in WWll. My father was a radio man for the hump pilots stationed out of India.

His younger brother died in the Battle of the Bulge.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge

My father was unfortunately visiting his family when the sad news of his younger brother's death was received and overheard his mother quote, " oh god why couldn't it have been Gerald."

Well I don't know about you but I would consider that the seal of approval to leave this family unit.

He did, as I have a huge box of love letters from him and my mother during is station in India. So they were married, thus my family unit began.

Although my mother was in an "orphan", she and 4 of her siblings were raised with her own family, plus now included more families. I helped her go to the ex-student celebration when I was old enough but until then her brother was always able to get them there. He was an art teacher in the Houston public school system and always had the summers off to drive where ever the celebration was held.

My father got a purple heart and a silver star.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Star

The silver star was for everyone being killed during one of the flights and he was guided to fly the rest of the planes journey, as he didn't know how at that time because he was trained as a radio man.

My father never felt the purple heart was much of a metal for giving ones life in the cause, and didn't want his, because that is the only metal his brother received. My mother took it and stowed it away. She understood his grief.

She had also lost a brother in New Guinea, windtalker.

The funny thing about families is that the children will always forgive the parents. I have seen this behaviour in abused children still wanting their parents to stop hating them.

The great thing about families is that there is that forgiveness between all, it just takes time.

Every member of a family makes mistakes. I dare any of you to recall when not one of you in your family made a mistake.

Ok so since with theology in mind and studying all cultures explanation as to how they got here on this earth I wrote a paper for St. Eds called, The Seven Things That Create.

This paper outlined that there are 7 common beliefs in all of mans myths. I was a huge fan of Joseph Campbell and even got to hear him speak.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Campbell

I got an A on the paper. Pretty good paper for someone who couldn't read but could type and write. Fortunately for me I befriended many an English major who would edit my papers and help me put them in the format that was required. My capstone paper (must be at least 40 pages long) was on the Legalization of Prostitution. I felt that without it's legalization then prostitutes would always be victims of oppression. Be that their pimps or the police or a serial killer etc.

I handed half of it in hand written script and my professor excepted it and I was finally able to graduate with my BLS in 1997. I have a small pinky ring as my medal that anything can be done.

So since my family's mistakes have been aired and entertaining as of recent.

I just would like to say the family unit is what you make of it, and it can grow strong or weak that is the choice the family makes as a whole.

My family is very strong, and we all love each other through the thick and thin of our own path learning how to blend out differences and our likenesses.

back from "jail" mental "jail"

February 06, 2008 01:34AM

Hello all.
I'm back from 4 days in "mental health" jail

I took some bad advice from a PHD in psyciatical advice that helped my daughter but did not help me... meaning that your genetic makeup and your family history of what ever ails you is just as important as your cultural upbringing. There is no nurture vs nature argument anymore.. even top anthropologists disagree.

I am under cover as a film maker and must follow my lawyers advice for a year before I can make my documentary public. I went undercover and let myself be pretty much under the new order law that is in the hands of people with power that let the poor and uneducated fall through the cracks of society. I have a year according to my lawyer to play the games to get my first arrest removed from my record. But as well all know as artists you must document and fell and see only from first hand experience. So until I see my lawyer..(a VERY good one ) I might add tomorrow and figure out how to raise money for the good guys during my incarceration... I must be mute. But I hope to be able to at least inspire everyone to get registered to VOTE and VOTE for our bill of rights to be what they once where. Our forefathers knew what the deal was with persercution of religious, racial beliefs. Vote your beliefs but at the very least VOTE, and when these puppets come to your state until NOV election listen to what they say and how they say it and also what they hide and don't say.... Too many people have died for this right all over the world. Do not take this blood right with a glib view. It is important, and it effects the world. The planet Earth is a very small place ... take care of her and don't let the pigs of oppression decide your vote of the heart.

I will return to my jailers tomorrow to make a list of things they (the good guys) need to run their jail. I will need to contact many corporations in town to see what can be done for this very good institute to see that it is allowed to run things the way things should be run.

I have to stay vague atm because of my lawyers advice... the documentary may not make the scene until after the election because of my year of playing the game. As I went undercover to see what kind of rights have been messed with by the current administration.

quite a lot... lets just say I wasn't allowed to call my lawyer for 4 days without trial... UM that's a big one don't you think?

We spend soooo much money on the aid to human rights in other less fortunate counties, yet the largest population of starving poor is in Washington DC... I"m pretty sure Washington and Lincoln are both rolling in their graves... that is not the country they tried to build and that is not the 1984 we will soon live if we don't use the blood of history and VOTE.
